timsfly Posted May 13, 2010 Posted May 13, 2010 We lucked out last night and early this morning, some high winds and some rain, but not enough to mess the river up, it is still in good shape and clear. Been catching trout on caddis, blue wing olives, tricos, beetles, ants, stimulators and griffiths gnats. Good nymphs now are the pheasant tails, gold ribbed hares ears, sow bugs, burlaps copper johns, zebra midges, prince nymphs and san juan worms. Glo-balls will work all day long, as will thread jigs and woolybuggers. Water is clear, so 2lb(7X) tippet will work best on dries, fishing nymphs I'm getting by just fine on 3lb(6X) tippet. Kids day is saturday the 15th of may, all childern fish free all day, holes being stocked and reserved just for kids are from the low water bridge, just south of the old CCC lodge, up to the top hole by the hatchery, kids only 15 and under fish in these holes all day saturday, so bring the kiddies and have some fun. Members osuangler Posted May 17, 2010 Members Posted May 17, 2010 Looks like you might get th edge of some bad weather tonight. Been watching it pretty close here in OK as you might guess. Been very blessed to have missed the brunt of the storms the last couple of weeks. Any flooding at he park? timsfly Posted May 18, 2010 Author Posted May 18, 2010 Looks like you might get th edge of some bad weather tonight. Been watching it pretty close here in OK as you might guess. Been very blessed to have missed the brunt of the storms the last couple of weeks. Any flooding at he park? Roaring River is still in pretty good shape, about a foot and 1/2 over normal, not perfectly clear, but not muddy, has that greenish tinge to it, 3' of visability in still water with the sun up a bit better, some dry fly fishing, but not much, still catching most of the trout on buggers, san juan worms, copper johns, glo-balls, flash back hares ears and pheasant tail nymphs. The river is fishable and getting better everyday, the river has dropped quite a bit just today. Aywho, a couple of questions, when are we going to see some more hat cam videos and how in the world do I post pictures?!?! Everytime I try it tells me they are too big! Fly_Guy Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Fished it yesterday - water is a little fast, but fairly clear. It's actually a really pretty shade of deep blue. Wife and I both caught 4 or 5 in an hour and a half - fishing was very fast, and I was trying to use odd stuff that I usually don't use. Turns out, a trout will hit a soft plastic swimming minnow. Left the fly rod at home (by accident, I assure you). I would have loved to get some large scuds down to em though... We kept ours - and perhaps I've been spoiled by Taneycomo trout, but the meat of the trout park fish sure seems soft. It also has a layer of fat close to the skin, which gives it a strong fishey flavor when not cut out. When you fillet, don't go right along the skin - the fish will taste better for it. Coming back the second week of june with friends and fly rods.
Members osuangler Posted May 20, 2010 Members Posted May 20, 2010 Hey hey! I finally got it to work! Thanks Tim! Jay Parker An angler is a man who spends rainy days sitting around on the muddy banks of rivers doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home. ~Author Unknown
timsfly Posted May 20, 2010 Author Posted May 20, 2010 Roaring River came up about 3 ft last night, murky and fast today. If we don't get a bunch of rain tonight, the river should be in good shape again by memorial weekend.
