Will The Water Be Fishable

I am heading down to the James on Sunday and putting in at the Galena Ramp. This is the first time I have ever fished the James. I saw that the river is up because of the rain. Do I want to try to fish it or should I wait till better water conditions.

I would most likely wait. But keep an eye on the gauge. You may have better luck towards the upper end. It will clear faster and drop sooner.

The james at 65 and 60 in springfield looks more like a chocolate shake. High and angy with a lot of debride floating around. I would wait to fish the james and see if it clears up. I like to fish stained water but not muddy water.

I drive across the James and Finley at least 4 times a day during the middle of the week commuting back and forth, so I get a good chance to eyeball them as to water clarity, and they are back to that slightly milky green, and not muddy at all.

Actually a good color for crankin' and spinnerbaits.

But if we get more rain, it'll blow them out again, because the ground is just so saturated. Watch the weather down here, and the USGS gauge sites.

I feel your pain. I was watching the water myself. Though it was not dropping fast, it was starting to somewhat clear up. I was hoping by Sunday something might be floatable. Not likely now.

How bout a NO RAIN DANCE...But only rain on Wednsday ONly to wash the junk down the river so the weekends are nicer.
