Too many good rivers to choose from!!!

After much deliberation (and reading the last few reports), I think i'll check out the Upper Jacks Fk this wknd.

Will be my first time on it and was thinking of keeping it short and sweet from Blue Spring to Rymers.

Anyone out this past wknd? Is the fishing still good?

Still so good it makes a man cry like Fishmaniac on Memorial wknd??

Looks like 47 cfs at Mtn View. That isn't suicide is it? I don't mind dragging some/alot if it means avoiding the insanity and catching smallies.

Someone mentioned earlier about 'closing the river' b/c of low flows.

What does that mean?

Any new tips greatly appreciated. Looking forward to checking it out.

Sounds like an awesome stream.

By the way - anyone do any wading up Sinking Creek?

I've done well from hwy 19 up to Camp Zoe in April but wonder how good the fishing stays once the camp cranks up for the summer and flows go down.

Anyone been from the camp up to Barren Fork confluence?

thanks in advance,

Brian

I'd like to know also. I'm wanting to put in at buck hollow and get out at Eminence. I saw the water level above alley was at 1.27. Is it still doable with a canoe and gear to last for a day and a half? I'm wanting to avoid the crowds and catch some fish, but I don't want to drag all the way up to Alley.

Also, are there any other places to put in about 6-8 miles above Alley Spring?

We floated out of Buck in heavilly loaded boats at 63 and falling a couple weeks ago. Had to hop out and drag a couple times but it wasnt bad, might be a little worse at 47 and falling but you should be floating most of the time. Might shorten your float if your concerned about dragging or put inat Blue Spring, Rymers, or Bay instead. Bay Creek Access is a bout 7-8 above Alley, short shuttle too.

I got my info wrong it looks like. We're suppose to put in at Bay Creek instead of Buck Hollow.

I keep getting conflicting reports from two rivers canoe and akers ferry. two rivers says it's unfloatable and akers ferry says it's fine, running at 2.2 ft.

Bay Creek to Alley will be work at 47 cfs and dropping with a loaded canoe. If you have an aluminum canoe it will be a LOT of work. Plastic and fiberglass slides over the gravel a little better. That stretch has a whole lot of very shallow, gravelly riffles, and even some slow water areas that are extremely wide and shallow. Upstream the riffles are generally narrower and more rocky...harder on the bottoms of canoes, but probably no more difficult to do.

The canoe rentals stop renting canoes for the upper river when the water flow drops to the level it is now. That's what is meant by closing the river...they make it sound like the Park Service closes the river so that people won't be pestering them to rent canoes for the upper river.

For future reference:

Putting in at Bay Creek vice Buck Hollow will be a lot better of a scenerio due to river levels. Akers states their data on the Alley gauge, which is a good river level, the 47 cfs is based on a Buck Hollow gauge. Two Rivers was probably basing their judgement off of this gauge, which as Al states, it'll be work. Bay creek is way down river from Buck Hollow, but above Alley, therefore, by doing the math, the river levels from Bay Creek to Alley should accomodate your float during this time period specified. I doubt a drag here and there will be any big deal.
