With Table Rock starting to turn

and the cold weather expected to last,

I imagine we could see some shad soon.

I assume you are refering to the action on Table Rock or does the water turning have an impact on Taney (other than oxygen levels in the water)

No sorry guys... Table Rock's water temp has to drop into the low 40's to cause a shad kill. I wish it would happen too but Table Rock hasn't even turned over yet.

Chris- they are refering to shad actually dying on Table Rock and getting sucked thru the turbines into Taney. It's quite a feeding frenzy.

We need alot of hard running water for shad to come thru... and I'm not sure we'll see that much this winter with TR so low.

Phil, I sure hope the shad come through in early january,this makes for dynamite fishing with white jigs. as far as boating etiquette goes, a little common sense goes a long way!I am sure the tourna ment will fill up,as we have some new blood coming in.let us not have a few bad apples ruin it for everyone!Oh well,i have got to get ready to head up north.I have a date with a big buck that I missed three weeks ago!Good luck with the sewers!

dynamite??? How about unreal! My fishing buddy Vince and I caught over 250 trout in a tournament last Feb tied up at the cable on the south side - threw jigs from 8 am till 4 pm and caught fish on every cast. None over 20 inches though so no cigar. We were wore out! And 90% of the time we threw white jigs. It was after a shad run. We threw brown jigs for a short time but it didn't make any difference.

Yes. I agree with Phil. It is way to early for the temperatures in TR to be that cold yet especially with all of the hot weather we've had until recently. It could be late February before they get that cold. Hopefully by that time, I'll be in Patagonia with a little 3month graduation present to myself. And with as low as TR is and with the little rain we've gotten the Corps won't run a lot of water, probably just enough for the electricity demands.

3 months in Patagonia!!!! Geeeeezzzzz!!!!!! I hate to ask where you graduated from! What will you do when you come back- career-wise? Make alot of money I hope to pay for you graduation present.

well i havent graduated yet....next friday. and from Missouri State University in springfield. I fish down at Taney as much as possible. about the patagonia trip....that would be good about the forum topic. i also have 2 other websites www.missouri-fishing.com that me and a friend from school made which includes every public access in the state and a place to post reports, and i just made a blog at blogger.com for the trip but im sure i can just post it in here as well. me and another friend are going down there the second week in jan leaving the 14th and coming back march31 or in april. and we are pretty much going to wing the trip and backpack around working our way to Ushuia and the rio grande and rio gallegos to fish for the big sea runs. As for career plans when i get back, ill probably be moving out west to find a decent job since there arent really any fisheries jobs around here right now!

lake stratification breaks down (mixing/turnover) when the weather cools the surface temperature to approximately the same as the bottom temeratures. The temperature of the hypolimnion (bottom) will be about the same as it was when the lake stratified in the spring/early summer. With the extremely cold nights we have had and are now experiencing, I would imagine that mixing is well underway. I read another post where James Civelo was referenced for stating that silt was showing up in the water coming through the dam also indicating mixing. All of this only means one thing -- better fishing on Taney. As for shad kills, bring them on!!!!!!!!!!!
