MaxDrown Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Where can I find a good population of smallmouth on the Current River? Preferably closer to the headwaters so the drive time from Columbia, MO is reduced. -- Max Drown
polock Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 round springs to where it empties into the black river man, they are nailing top water in the shallows at daylight and dusk. been slaying them on white and black twin tailed grubs and small plastics.

Al Agnew Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Basically the Round Spring to Two Rivers stretch is the highest section that has a really good smallie population. The fish get a little bigger farther downstream, and like Polock said, you can find them all the way to the mouth of the river, though you start getting into more spotted bass below Doniphan.
Outside Bend Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Any reason you settled on the Current? You'll be passing up a lot of smallie water that's as good or better. <{{{><
MaxDrown Posted June 9, 2010 Author Posted June 9, 2010 No reason. What do you recommend? -- Max Drown

What type of grubs you using? Are they a 4" or 5" split tail hula grub with a skirt or just a ordinary spit tail? And you say your best color was a white shad color with black flake? or just anything white.
Members Wormser Posted July 2, 2010 Members Posted July 2, 2010 No reason. What do you recommend? Piney, Gasconade, upper Meramec.....
Gavin Posted July 2, 2010 Posted July 2, 2010 I agree...lots of great water on the G. Nade & Big Piney..wish I could fish those rivers more often.
