Members LeviW Posted June 14, 2010 Members Posted June 14, 2010 Hello all, I am new to the forumn. Been lurking for a while and wanted to give some input. I hit springfield lake with a good friend saturday morning. We launched a canoe under the 65 bridge at around 9:00AM. We had good success that morning but the bite seemed to drop off around Noon. From 9-12 we caught 3 good size bass (14", 15", 16"), 3 small bass, a black crappie (I think??, picture attached) and two small perch. The bass were caught on pumkin seed tubes and watermellon pepper double tailed hula grubs (chommper brand). I attached some pics (1 of the bass and 1 of the crappie). Sorry for the quality. Thanks - Levi
bigredbirdfan Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Been off the forum a while. I just started fishing spfd lake recently only one trip so far. Where did you concentrate near bridge and upper river area or main lake grassy area? Thanks for your report.
eric1978 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Pretty sure that's a sunfish hybrid of some sort. Possibly crappieXgreenie? Interesting looking. Can you upload the picture again and try to make it bigger? I'd like to get a closer look at that.
Chief Grey Bear Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 Stange for sure. I would say if it indeed a cross and not some abnormanlity, it would be of a White and Black Crappie mix. steveearle Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 It is a male white crappie...You guys should recognize the coloring (although this one is not quite as dark) from catching male white crappie during the spawn that have this color and their belly turns almost jet black...(FYI--not saying this is a spawner)
Fish Bork Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 It's a white crappie they have bars and also count the spines on the dorsal that one has 5. Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana.
