Members Bighorn Flies Posted July 31, 2010 Members Posted July 31, 2010 Just so you know, most people modiffy an original patern to improve on it. For instance, I leave a couple of inches of thread hanging from the tail of wooly bugers and griffiths nats to wind back over the hackle to keep it from breaking after two fish. Thats not in the original but it should be. When you buy those patterns they arent done that way becouse it takes more time and production suffers. My truck doesnt look anything like a model T but I would be glad to race if you have one. See my point? I also do the same sort of thing. I tie in all of my wire from the eye back and any other material that has a tendency to pull out. I also secure all my wire with two secure points when I tie it off so it doesn't pull out when a fish hits it. I use wire to wrap over the hackle on any of my bigger streamers. I do a lot of stuff to put out a quality fly. Just because I sell them for .75 doesn't mean I want to make a quick buck. I do it because I Love it. I've been tying commercially for 23 years and I got tired of seeing people pay 2.00 to 10.00 a fly when I tie them for 8.00 a doz. to the shops. It's like somebody started a trend that the more expensive a fly is the better it works. So I decided to give regular customers a chance to buy a quality fly at a realistic price. Just so you know I am the only tier in my business. I don't order from out of the States. I also tie custom patterns other online businesses will not because their manufacturing companies only know what they know. It might take me an extra 15 seconds to add something to a fly and it might cut down a little on my production time. But I'm fast and the end product is worth the wait I think.
