After a work injury that destroyed my left elbow and shoulder, I qualify for a special weapons permit for Missouri archery deer season. I got a good deal on a Horton Legand, 175# crossbow a few years ago at the Bass Pro Outlet in Springfield. I haven't had the chance to get out during the archery season, but am really going to try this Fall.

While looking through the new edition of the Redhead hunting catalog from Bass Pro, I noticed a page with 6 or 8 "crossbow" broadheads. I have been thinking of getting some of the Rage 3 blade heads, but they were not listed as crossbow broadheads. Is there really any differences, or is it just advertising hype?

Sorry to hear about your injuries. I'm a recurve/longbow guy and have noticed I don't like pulling so much weight these last couple of years, don't like the thought of losing the ability. I really don't know about a thing about crossbows, or even these all those newfangled compoundwheeledthingermajigs, but I would think I'd rather have a fixed blade head instead of having to deal with a mechanical head which might not work function properly or be reusable. The only heads I would use from Bass Pro for my traditional bows are the Magnus ones. The Excalibur Boltcutter looks like it might be a decent head for you, a little cheaper too.

Crossbows are harder to set up to where Fixed Blades Plane right so I always went with Mechanical.Plus most the time you will distroy your Bolt and Head anyway,I've had less problem since I switched to Carbon Bolts.
