What To Use?

Heading to the lake week of july 25th what can i do to catch some bass. Gonna be on the three mile mm near the dam.

Buzzbaits, flukes, and poppers early in the morning and before sunset. Dark colored 10" Power Worms at night. Mix in some spinner baits during those times as well.

Yep what he said except I throw the worms starting right after dinner. Dark Blue, Black or June Bug... You can also flip jigs around docks and have success.

Ok, I just have to ask. How do you rig these 10" power worms? I have seen on many different forums people recommending 10" power worms. I'm starting to believe that there is something to this. I'm heading to LOZ this weekend and might have to try this. Where do you fish them and how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I texas rig mine with a 4/0 hook. Anything dark colored. Fish them in brush piles around docks or off points.

Texas rig the big power worm. I use a tungsten weight of 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, or 1/2 oz. depending on depth and how Im fishing. The 3/8 oz. is a good middle ground. I use a 5/0 Gamakatsu EWG superline hook. It is more sturdy and the point won't roll over on you and dull the hook like a standard EWG will. 10" Power worms in black, black grape, blue fleck, june bug, or red shad. On this same set up, I also use a dark brush hog. Any of the black or grape bases work well--black, black/red, blackberry, blueberry, black grape, etc. Throw it everywhere til you figure out where you want to fish. Docks, points, brush, etc..or a combination of these....shallow or deep...There are shallow fish all year round...Fishing is good right now. We had 19 3/4 lbs. Saturday night and only got 7th. Fishing will be good all summer but the numbers seem to drop from here on out...Water is the warmest I have ever seen it in the 15 years I have been fishing down there. 90.2 in the evening, 89 at midnight, 87+ at 4:00 am. These cool night should knock the surface down a few degrees. Won't change the fishing much but much better on livewell fish in a tourney.

Yep the 10inch Berkley Power Worms. Black and Blue at night or lighter shades during the day. Texas rig em on a big 7ft med heavy rod. Crawl them on the bottom by pulling them with your rod tip and then reel up the slack. Fishing brush(sunken trees) is pretty important right now. Use a good sized worm weight to help you feel your way around while you are getting used to it. We had two 5lbers this morning plus a number or other good solid fish. Or a big shaky head. Don't be afraid to go out well after dark and fish during the night.

Thanks for the pointers guys! I will be at the lake this weekend and will have to give a few of these a try. I have fished the 7" worms and the Chompers twin tail grub with skirt and have done quite well this way, so I am sure it will be much the same style. I love learning new techniques to add to my arsenal. So, off to Bass Pro I go to pick me up some 10" power worms. See you on the lake!
