Members rookie Posted December 7, 2005 Members Posted December 7, 2005 I'm planning on floating on the Buffalo next Spring, anybody know about the fishing? I would have to believe it would be pretty good. Don't exactly know when or which section but I know I will be fishing.
Members Lucky Fly Posted December 7, 2005 Members Posted December 7, 2005 Rookie, the Buffalo has some fine fishing along with the outstanding scenery. If an overnite trip is a possibilty, I would do Ponca to Rush. Also, my own tip would be to plan on putting in at 9:00 or 10:00 and taking out at 7:00 or 8:00. The canoe traffic on the Buffalo in the spring is very crowded. If fishing is your purpose, then the later start time will but you behind most floaters and the water will be less disturbed as most pure floaters begin from 6:00 to 8:00 in the mornings. Plan on taking a lunch at 12:00 or so to maintain your "fishing gap". This works on the Elk as well. steve "Trout Don't Live In Ugly Places"
Gavin Posted December 13, 2005 Posted December 13, 2005 There are lots of good options on the Buffalo, Boxley to Ponca can provide a lot of thrills if there is enough water, Ponca to Kyles can be a makes a good day float or a short overnighter, Ponca to Pruitt makes a long overnighter, or an easy 3 day. I've never been below Pruitt, but I'm sure there is a lot of nice water in the 70 or so miles between Pruitt & Rush. Cheers.
Guest Jim Traylor Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 From Rush to the White is the Best fishing and the least crowded. Definatly an overnight trip invloved here though. Crawdad imitations. poppers, ect..I'd avoid a weekend on ony other stretch during a weekend or especially a holiday weekend. Jimmy T.
