oneshot Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Went last night to Pomme De Terre Lake there was 4 of us fishing using Cut Bait,Live Perch,Liver and Sonny's. I caught one Small Channel on Sonny's and had one Rod almost pulled in using Cut Bait but didn't hook it. I've had some serious Hits on Cut Bait but having problems hooking I'm wondering if maybe I need Bigger Hooks? oneshot
OzarkFishman Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 What size hook and what kind of hook are you using? For cut bait, I go with a 4/0 or 5/0 Circle or Kahle hook. Hope this helps, OzarkFishman

I have used them a lot on fish in the gulf and the bite to hook up ratio is amazing! If anything, they might work too well, as sometimes they are difficult to remove. Every fish will be hooked in the corner of the mouth. The hardest thing to get used to is that you don't set the hook (they set themselves when the fish turns its head). All you have to do is start reeling slowly once the fish has taken the bait. THis should help for those fish that are trying to steal your gear! Good luck!
