Nortrad Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Solid day that ended with a ripping storm. Been wanting to fish Parker so I started just below the creek, in the riffle with the new, brown dead tree hanging over. Got a 'bow on a rubber legs then a small brown, missed at least three. The river was way down, lowest I've seen in awhile, and clear. Hustled up to the campsite and hit the horse trail. You guys that fish here know the first nice hole with the bluffs. That hole produced, fished a copper brown CJ w. #16 midge droppers, switching between dark olive, red, black. Six 'bows and 2 browns out of that hole, including the big shouldered fellow in the pic. Beautiful colors on the rear of this brown. Great AM and headed to Tan Vat for a break. Walked downstream to 'The Wall'. Met another fisherman there. I saw him catch one above me, more than me, skunked. The Wall that produced so well a few weeks ago shut me down. Big, nice 'bows feeding on something in the film. No discernible insect activity. Couldn't get any love for any fly combo. Headed up above Tan Vat. Low river conditions in the rocks. No love again with the 2 fly rigs so I went to a small olive pine squirrel craw and the nice 'bow slammed it in the main riffle/spill of boulder run. Unfortunately a snagged up and lost it. Tried another 'fancier' craw with no pay off. Moved up to the next deeper hole and a #8 black Slump Buster paid off again. That fly's been working fairly well this season. Moved up the deep run/turn and saw a bunch of fish podded up. Hiked above them and crossed to fish from the opposite bank. Rubber leg CJ and midge combo paid off with several 'bows and another slim brown. The sky turned dark and rumbly and I hustled back up the trail to the parking lot to get a little wet just as I got to the car. Tired and happy with this great river, the Current. We are very lucky here in MO. Heading over to WA next week to hook up with my boys and camp/fish the E. Cascades, mostly lake fishing. Will also hit the Yakima while I'm there.
Andy & JoAnne Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Nice report. The weather here in WA is looking more and more like summer. East of the mountains, summer has definitely set in. Have fun.
Nortrad Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 I didn't realize you were from WA! I bet it's nice in Seattle, remembering a time I cruised from L. Washington to Lake Union with an old high school friend of mine on a 80's + Saturday. Been here 4 years in August. I fished lakes on the Yakama rez with flies on a spin rod before going with the fly rod exclusively. I hope I'm successful. These lakes get hit pretty hard with hardware and bait, but we used to do well with a certain fly I developed a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...
