TroutRinger Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 What do you guys think about v bottoms or semi-v's for upper Taney. If I only planned on fishing there I would just get a flat bottom, but I would like to comfortably use it on Bull Shoals, Table Rock, etc. as well. I think I am probably going to end up with a Bass Tracker (or similar style boat) with a partial v bow and around a 40 horse outboard. Would that be a decent boat on Taney? I have also found some boats like this one http://loz.craigslist.org/boa/1840356644.html what do you guys think of something like this? "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
Gatorjet Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 An aluminum V that you suggest would be fine. It gives you a much safer boat when the generators are operating, and as long as you learn the lake when the water is off you'll do fine. Learning the channel isn't that difficult either. Especially to Lookout, and without some generation I don't go above there as a courtesy to the Fly Fishermen in waders all along the lake in that area. Plenty of good fishing from Lookout down. I run a "V" bottom 20' inboard jet. The jet allows me to run in much shallower water than a prop boat if I keep on plane. There are many fiberglass big Bass Boats on Upper Taney also. I used to have a 17' Procraft fiberglass Fish & Ski which did fine. Before I learned to stay on the bluff side at Short Creek, and opposite side from the creek at Fall Creek I did leave a little stainless steel on the gravel shoals. Especially when I was trying to be "nice", and idel around the fools that insist on anchoring in the channel rather than off to the side so boats can get by safely. Now I just keep the Gator up on the pad, and go around them over the shoal in inches of water. Hope this helps with your decision. Real men go propless!
Members alletec Posted July 14, 2010 Members Posted July 14, 2010 I have a deep V Lund and I love it. It is very safe and I can go any where I want on Tanny. I bought it last August. It is a 17.5 Ft. with a 50hp motor. I just spent a week with it on Tanny. Love that boat. Jeff Jeff Alley

Mr. Ed Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Yep... can't beat a Lund. I have an older one I picked up at an auction for about nothin. Totally re did her... 17' and 75hp. This spring I got caught on the wrong end of a big open Kansas reservoir... later to be reported 30-40mph winds. We bucked through 3 and 4' whitecap waves all the way home. 3 boats sunk that day... mine wasn't one of them. I've used the same boat on Taney.
