CaptainJoe Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Drop shot here, drot shot there. Almost everywhere a drop shot with only little ones. But I did pick up a jig, Eakins 3/8, Peanut and Butter, and landed this 20 in. 4.13 smallmouth in Big Indian. This fish is now swimming in my cove. Jason Essary Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Big Indian, now your pickin on my fish...lol. Great Job man. Question, still learning this football thing. What line do you and who ever else throw footballs on. Was using 15lb mono, seemed to make a bow up from the line floating and the dia. So changed to 12 mono, now cant get the dang hook to stick. Thinking of going to floro. Essary Construction - Honest work for honest price Custom Construction and Remodeling Call for free quotes (417)338-6418 http://essarycustomhomes.com/

Jason Essary Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Really....my "mentor" has been telling me to hit them as soon as you feel anything at all. Said with the weight he thought they would drop it quick if left to their own devices. Will give it a try tonight, be back with results. Thanks Denjac, thought I saw you leaving Castle view the other evening, White truck with gorgeous green boat. Didnt have time to stop ya and say hi. If your lifting it and letting it fall smack em as soon as you feel them.. It wasnt me you saw at the Castle, my boat is grey and white, but I do have a white truck. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Jason, I use a 4-5' 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid line that is flouro coated and it is tied to 20# Spiderwire Invisi-Braid. I want the jig to fall real slow as most of my bites occur on the fall. I also want to feel everything on the bottom, so the braid does this for me. I agree with Denjac on setting the hook. Yesterday, I was dragging the jig through a brush pile. I felt a spongy resistance, made sure he had it, and set. The jig was completely buried in his mouth. Denjac.....you know where my cove is. It is the second one on the left. steveearle Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 12 lb. fluro for TRock with the FBall. I throw 15-17 lb. fluoro at LOZ, etc. (I use Trilene 100% fluorocarbon)....I have (and I'm sure most others on here that have fished it alot) have had days when you had to hit them right away b/c, if not, they would drop it and days when you could not take it away from them if you wanted to. A fish usually gets the bait all the way into their mouth on the first try, although sometimes they will carry it around on their lips and then get it with second "inhale." Hit em right away unless you are missing fish. Alot of times people think they are mising them by hitting them too quick but what is really going on is that they ate it without you feeling it and the tick you feel is them spitting it out. Happens alot at LOZ with a finesse jig in the winter/early spring.
Jason Essary Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Ok guys, will try it this afternoon. Got some 12lb floro, will play with feeding to them and setting it quick. See what happens.
