I have fished in missouri all my life and have never even heard of a trout stamp until I found this forum. I must admit I only recently started to target trout. I am strictly catch and release, and have always had a fishing license. Do I need a trout stamp also?? And if so do you get them the same place you get your lic?

Thanks

It is my understanding that to fish trout in MO, yes you do need a trout stamp. At the trout parks listed on this forum, listed under "Ozark's Trout Parks" you will need to purchase a permit also. Some of the MO trout fishers can better answer your question than I. I'm just going from what I remember from the MO Trout Regs that I read several months ago.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

I believe in our state trout parks with permit fishing, you only need the permit and not the stamp. However, outside of the parks, you must have a stamp to fish for trout!

I asked this question the last time I was at Montauk and the answer is: you can fish for trout with a regular license but you cannot keep them without a trout stamp.

How about we refrain from replying until we can get the official wildlife code or a game warden in on this? Really don't want it turning out like last time. And can't you people go out and fish instead? I'm not in the area right now, so there should be plenty to catch.

Guys thanks,

I found the answer on the MDC wedsite it reads:

To possess trout, except in trout parks where a daily trout fishing tag is required. A Trout Permit is required for all winter fishing in trout parks and for all fishing year ‘round in Lake Taneycomo upstream from U.S. Highway 65 bridge. Must also have a fishing permit or qualify for an exemption.

I looked there several times, guess I missed it. That website confuses me.

Happy fishing

You can C&R anywhere except the trout parks with just a regular license. At the parks you must purchase a daily tag regardless of whether or not you're keeping fish. If you are planning to keep any trout anywhere, you must purchase a trout stamp (not actually a stamp anymore) for an additional $7 to your regular license. I'm not even sure if the parks will give you a daily tag without a trout stamp...anyone know the answer to that? I believe there may be some other regulations at Taney and several other places, but I'm not sure what they are.

That is the law...now who wants to talk about conservation ethics? biggrin.gif Relax, I'm kidding.

Edit: Looks like you found the answer while I was typing. I hate when that happens.

Thanks for the info. I would love to talk conservation ethics.

Haha!!

Conservation ethics? In Missouri?

You have to be kidding! You can go to any boat ramp in the state and see freshly cleaned carcasses waiting for the crawdads. As long as it is legal to keep fish there will never be ethics. It is a fine line between healthy harvesting and greedy ego seekers.

We are living in a country where it is cheaper to buy fish than it is to spend the money to catch them but people still think they need a return on thier investments. Until that mentality is altered nothing will ever change.

And by the way...all the laws in the land wont stop people from taking trophy fish as long as there is only one cop working a thousand fisherman on an hourly basis.
