Will be coming to Taney sometime soon, maybe 7/23/10. We normally go to Bennett Springs just spent 5 days there after the 5th. This will be my first trip and have some ?s. First I have a 5 year old boy that loves to fish and play at the edge of the water.( catching crawdads, small fish etc) Is Taney kid friendly? Would like to stay close to dam. Is there some place I can go on such short notice? Will be wading and bank fishing. How far down from the dam can we go? (on public land) I don't want to get shot at . Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance Jim F

I wouldnt exactly call the dam area kid friendly. There is not a whole lot of shore line, and what is there is pretty rocky. If there is water running, then there will be zero shoreline. And keep in mind that the water temp is around 50 degrees. Not something for a kid to "play" near by.

You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

Not kid friend...

Oh stop it guys... you just dont what kids throwing rock..

LOL...

First off .. try to get a hold of Lilleys Landing for a place to stay .... Phils got a nice play ground for the little ones and a swimming pool...

Up by the dam.. the guys are right.. its not all that kid friendly.. unless he like to fish and play in cold water.

If the water is on... I would suggest not taking him... But if the waters off and you want to hook into a few and let him bring them in ... well then I say GO FOR IT!

well thanks for the input, I tried to talk to Lille's the are booked for this weekend, I still had a lot of ?s, she was to busy with other folks to answer them. I called Cooper they too are booked. As for my son he love to fish and he has yet to met any water he didn't like. But for this weekend I will come down by myself, to get a feel for the place, the lodges, the water and the fish  . I will start at the dam Friday night. hopefully I will find some place to sleep, maybe my truck. been there done that. if ya'll smell something, by Sunday, it might be me. I'll try to stay down wind. Hope to see you there. Jim F

There are a couple of places to stay close to the dam. Couple of cabins behind River Run owned by Danna. I think you can rent them at River Run's shop. Also a couple of places on the south side of the dam. Then there's Fall Creek at 165 and Fall Creek Rd.

Water off in the am's. Good fishing. Kids can splash in the water all they want . . . does NOT bother the fish. They're used to the foot traffic. And it's not that cold, esp for kids.

Come fish off our dock- it's been alittle slow down here though - although I heard the stocking boat was out today.

Jim,

When I head down to Taney by myself, I usually just take a tent and get a spot at Table Rock State Park Campground (my wife and daughter hold out for a hotel if they are joining me). Its $13 a night without electricity and just a few minutes from the dam. And there's even showers!

Trout Hollow is another place to stay...dock to fish off of, bait shop, pool, restaurant across the street, and cabins...also Chartered Waters guide service is right down the road if that is something you would be interested in.

Good luck and hope you enjoy Taney it is a wonderful place to fish and take the family. (Plenty of stuff to do and great fishing)
