Trevor K Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 I started fly fishing when I was growing up in Savannah at age 8 and now at 28 I don't know what I would do without a fly rod in my hand. There are a few of us in the St Joe area, heck we even had a half arsed tying club kinda thingy for a couple years until I lost the time to keep it together. I'm sending a PM your way Trevor. Steve You grew up in Savannah? I went to high school in Savannah. Well, the whole Mozingo fly fishing thing didn't work out quite as planned. We got up there and found out that our battery didn't get nearly charged enough, so we couldn't go too far. We ended up picking up a few bass on buzzbaits though. Still a good trip. Nice to get out. If the batter wouldn't have died I would've given the fly rod a try, but oh well. That must means I'll have to go back...haha. I don't know if you guys know where Happy Holler Lake is, but we charged the battery up better and went there Sunday morning. Did ok on buzzbaits again, but chickened out on the fly fishing.
Members Pflugradt Posted August 2, 2010 Members Posted August 2, 2010 Dude... I have the bass kryptonite for Happy Holler. I was bow hunting in a tree that is now in the middle of that lake when I was 13!!! Yup I went to Savannah and graduated in 2000, good times and I miss that place. Check out my warm water flytying and flyfishing how to.
Trevor K Posted August 2, 2010 Author Posted August 2, 2010 Well, I can tell you that a buzzbait wasn't bass kryptonite on Sunday. It picked up enough fish to make it worth going though. I used to do a lot of turkey hunting on that area. I electrofished that lake with the MDC once when I was in high school and we pulled up a bass that was 8.5 pounds. The biggest I ever hooked was just under 4 though. Not a bad little lake for a quick trip. Seems to get a lot of pressure on the weekends though.
Members N Wolf Posted August 3, 2010 Members Posted August 3, 2010 My weekend didnt go as planned either. My tournament partner had to go to Texas so Steve and I went to pony on saterday and caught a bunch of small bass on poppers and a few on deceivers. Sunday we tried the cameron reseviors, waste of time. My tournament is this weekend so I have to put up the fly rods for a while. What size fish did you catch at mozingo?
Trevor K Posted August 3, 2010 Author Posted August 3, 2010 We only caught a few bass and they all came from just north of the north boat ramp on buzzbaits right at first light. A couple would've been in the slot. A couple would've been just over it and one was under it. Still fun to catch, but nothing too noteworthy. Good luck in your tournament this weekend! Let me know how you do and how the field in general does.
