Fishrman Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Fished for the first time in about 2 and half months. Launched out of Viola around 11:30 and proceeded to throw square bills in flat pockets with no results. Went up to Hickory Hollow and fished to 86 bridge with small cranks catching 7 with one keeper. Came back down to Viola and found a huge school of bass who fell for the scrounger head and fluke and a spoon caught 3 keepers and several shorts, all keepers were good ones. Am going back Friday with the wife, will see if they are still there, they showed themselves several times while I was there, if that tells you anything. After Friday, I will tell you where they are at and you can have at them if you are down that direction. Other than what I posted, if was very tough and hot. Good luck.
Fishrman Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Well went back today, headed to Viola and the fish were still there, but much, much harder to catch. Only caught two, caught them on a grub. These fish have been around the first wave barrier as you are heading up river toward Viola. They will come up several times during the day, but today when they came up it was a much shorter period than on Wed. You can see these fish on the graph and they are not suspended very deep at all, makes the spoon bite a little harder. Well proceeded back down river got a couple of bites on fb jig, but no hook ups. Hit a flat that a couple of lay downs toward the mouth, they were in about 10 feet of water, first flip, 3lb. smallie. Through deep crank after that caught 2 shorts in about 15 feet. Flipped some docks with no takers and then decided to move out to main lake. Hit the deep end of a long dock across from Point 23, with the half ounce scrounger head and caught 3 good Kentuckies, none were keepers, but good 14 inch fish. Finally moved up to Owl Creek caught 4 on plastic worm in pocket across from Owl Creek, caught them there for years, no keeps there. Fished a bluff end transition up above that with fb jig, caught one more keeper largemouth and that was it. Hope this helps.
tapout Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Way to scratch out some fish. I seem to get locked into what should be working and forget to try other structure and locations. Thanks for the report. I'd like to thank my FUTURE sponsers: Falcon Rods, Jewel Bait Co, and Seagar
glennL Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I found some white bass about 7pm tonight. They were in 82' of water, suspended at between 35 and 50. Dropped a spoon and caught, but the boat traffic made it impossible to fish. Glenn
glennL Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 And I'm at the quiet end of the lake. There were a ton a boats out tonight at dusk. Glenn
Bill Babler Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Fishrman just gave you'all so much information, it is unbelieveable. That was a fantastic White River Report, and I'm going to say it is pretty close to a pattern most of us guide types whould have ran, if we would have had throwers, instead of dunkers. This is one of the most detailed reports I have ever read on the rock. There are at least 6 huge pointers in this report. Some of you guys take a stab at breaking this report down and telling us what you think of it. It is a great report, chucked absolutely full of knowledge. Fish, that was above and beyond the call. Very much to the point and a very good trip. "I don't care who you are." Thanks Bill http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Stump bumper Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 Bill, The first point I noticed there was one good keeper in this report, it was a LM on a transition on a bluff end. That is the fish I would pattern and would start looking for more points like that one and fish the same depth the 1st one came from maybe changing colors of jigs/trailers. From this report and my personal experince on the same area the same days I will have to say the docks are holding some dinks but no keeper fish. On the 3 keepers on spoon and fluke near 86 bridge I don't know the depth or type of point, cover weather fisherman was targeting shad balls spoted on his depth finder. Was the spoon a vertical presentation or casted and "pumped" back type of retrive? Was it a wighted fluke or non weighted or cariolina rig?
rps Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 I have a slip at Holiday Island, one of the commercial docks off limits to fishing. As I walk to the boat, almost every time for the last two weeks, I have seen multiple keeper bass. I saw one that would have been anyone's kicker fish. They tend to hang under the main middle dock way and favor slips that have boats in them, the kind of locations you would pitch to instead of cast or skip to.
Bill Babler Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 There are at least 14 Rock Solid pieces of important fishing information in that post. It really does not get any better than that. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members CBOWEN Posted August 5, 2010 Members Posted August 5, 2010 Hey guys, first post on here but love to here about all the nice things yoou have to say about the lake. My wife and kids and I are coming down this week-end for some R&R from Kansas. Maybe do a little fishing, but just to enjoy the lake. Can anybody tell me if Lake Norfolk is worth driving over to, just to enjoy a less populated lake. We are staying by the dam and just wondering if it's worth the drive. Thanks and really enjoy all your posts.
