rcguy Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I've heard of them doing good on windy days, under overhang trees. Black with Ginger hackle at the middle. I tied some but have not given them a fair shake yet.
Gavin Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Tie one that looks like this...Ants can be good but I fish hoppers & beetles more often. Cheers.
Terry Beeson Posted August 13, 2010 Posted August 13, 2010 DT... Those ants can be KILLER under the right conditions. This weather should prove to be ideal for them. TIGHT LINES, YA'LL "There he stands, draped in more equipment than a telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O’Neil
brittsnbirds Posted August 14, 2010 Posted August 14, 2010 I always carry an ant pattern with me. If nothing else is producing I will at least try an ant. I cast across to the far side and let it quarter as if you were using a wet hackle fly. Then I slowly crawl or strip it back. You just never know. Ginger hackle is good as Jerry said, I also tie one all black with a red butt. Good luck. Oh yea, if your quartering or stripping it back, hang onto your rod. The strikes can be viscious!!
