powerdive Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Had to try it again. My friend Bad Santa and I hit the water at K Dock about noon today. All we did was jig/spoon, and while the fishing wasn't quite as fast as I found it the other day, we had plenty of fun. They were hitting light, and we missed quite a few...but we ended up catching about 18 walleyes, and kept three fat 20-21 inchers plus a 13" crappie for the bearded fellow's table. We also harassed the white bass a bit--they averaged about 16". Released 'em all. Along with the usual slew of 15-17 inch walleyes, we also caught a couple 8-9 inchers. Good to see the little guys out there bellying up to the barbecue. Surface temp was up to 91 and the top of the thermocline had dropped to 25 feet today. We caught most of our walleyes right on bottom at 36-37 feet. Hope to have photos tomorrow.
Forsythian Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Must have just missed you... the Mrs. and her fluffy dog wanted to go for a ride & swim, so we launched about 12:30 and came back in about 4:00. I didn't wet a line, other than put out a couple of jugs for catfish. Caught a decent channel on Sonny's dip. Pretty busy day for Kdock, including the requisite launch-ramp swimming crowd. I made the mistake of trying the ramp, rather than asking the swimmers to move off the gravel. The darn courtesy dock angles over the ramp to where the trailer tire fell off the pavement. Darn near got stuck, bent one of my axle bolts all to heck Cenosillicaphobiac
Sam Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Sorry you banged up your trailer. That's an annoyance every time I go to K Dock. I don't know why they've got that little dock crowding the ramp so, and the ramp concrete drops off into a hole on the other side. I've been putting the trailer within inches of the dock, but that's hard to do. I'm gonna just start launching off the gravel with 4WD. It looks like the weather's going to be cooler later this week. I think it's time for me to try trolling that deep/slow in-line spinner rig.
powerdive Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 Yep--worst thing they ever did was put that "courtesy" dock there. They were coming out of the hills yesterday............. Got one more day to fish, so BS and I will be out there tomorrow. Prolly hit the ramp about 8am.
powerdive Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Things have changed. There was mist on the water in the morning, the surface temp had dropped 4 degrees, and they evidently had run a lot of water through Powersite. Yesterday it looked like the thermocline was either breaking up or weakening between Mays Bluff and Hogan Creek. Anyway, the fish I'd been targeting were gone.
Martin Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 Looks like they've been running water thru Tablerock since Monday or so. 2 to 4 thousand CFS most of yesterday and last night. http://www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil/WCDS/Reports/Data/Tabrock.htm
