Fellas,

I'm going to be staying on Table Rock with two buddies next weekend. We're going to fish Taneycomo in my 18' Lowe V-bottom boat and would like to float the Kings River in canoes. However, if there's not enough water flowing on the Kings we're considering fishing the Beaver tailwaters. Is it possible to float these waters in a V-bottom boat like you could at Taneycomo? I've obviously never fished the Beaver waters so any advice on how one must fish there is appreciated.

Thanks for sharing!

i'm not sure of the water level, but under normal conditions (if there is such a thing) i'd say in a boat like that the furthest you could go is almost to the bridge up river from Houseman.

if you get past that -- the next gravel bar at spider creek would probably derail you. if you get past that one...you could probably make it to betrand, and then parker bottoms. but it would be at idle speed with the motor up.

i'd pm zach hoyt and ask him to be sure

How do you guys normally fish Beaver's Tailwaters? Do you wade from shore with chest waders, or do you use a canoe or a jon boat?

If both units are on,you can take a V-bottom to the dam, but need to be careful. No water = 86 bridge is the limit. The guides that work the area either use the classic river johns or drift boats.

Unless the water is running full, I suggest you rent a canoe or kayak, then beach it and wade fish.

The Dam Sore on 187, south of the dam, has both for rent and staff that know what they are talking about as far as river conditions and fishing.

If you want to splurge, Zach Hoyt, a forum regular, is supposed to be a good guide for the area.

rps,

Thanks for letting me know. It's tough to plan a trip somewhere that I've never been. A guide would be nice, but my budget just doesn't allow for one. Can you tell me the name of the dam store, or do you know the phone #? I'd like to give them a quick call but don't know how to find them from out of town.

the name of the dam store is "The Dam Store"(479-253-6154). Also google Spider Creek Resort (479-253-9241), they rent canoes and you can float from the dam to Spider creek or from Spider Creek to Houseman access (about 3.5 miles each float). Im with RPS, rent a canoe and beach it when you want to fish. Wear a swimsuit and wet wade it, its a little chilly but can be done easily.

Sorry on the slow reply. Looks like the awesome guys on this board have you covered.

I second the canoe idea. Bryce there at the store and Spider Creek(same owner) will hook you up with everything you need. Canoe traffic can be hectic on the weekends, but the trout have been very healthy this year.

Kings is very low and even though we might get rain this weekend, I would opt for the Tailwaters.

And thanks to Wily and RPS for the name plug..... :D
