Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 21, 2010 Root Admin Posted August 21, 2010 I'd told one of the guys the other day I thought it may take 16 pounds to win . . . then after the last couple of day's fishing, I took it back. This morning I said the trout were out there, it just depends if they would eat today. Some did. The top two teams fished jigs in the Short Creek area, but not the same way. Dwiggins/Burckhardt fished straight line 1/8th oz jigs and worked the bottom and Dwiggins/Freise fished their 1/16th oz jigs under a float. D/B team didn't have a rainbow over 2 pounds which meant all their trout were about 1.4 pounds each wile D/F team had a kicker. The Wheeler's, a father and son team from Oklahoma, were close behind with some real nice rainbows. As you can see, we had several rainbows over 2 pounds caught. The biggest rainbow was caught in the Short Creek area but not sure on what. More images later.
JohnP Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Thanks again Phil for helping to make this tournament a success for the Brason Police and Fire Associations. Our team (Pate/Miller) finished 4th with 9.56. All of the fish I caught were on 1/16th oz. jigs (Sculpin pattern and olive), mine were all tight lined working on the bottom as well as slow retrieving at different depths and Millers were under the float. Started out just below Short Creek and fished down to Riverlake Resort only putting 2 fish in the boat and hooking maybe 3 more (all smaller fish). Most of the fish caught were down below Cooper Creek and a few from under the Hwy 65 bridge. Didn't have a hit around the powerline/Monkey Island area. Looking forward to next year to defend the title for the Police Dept. vs. the Fire Dept.
Members catfish307 Posted August 22, 2010 Members Posted August 22, 2010 Conratulations to all who competed. I'd loved to have been able to fish your tournament and help support my brothers in blue.
hillbillyflyshack Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Phil that big rainbow was caught on a gold Cleo. I was behind him in line and asked. We had a tough time during the tournament but had a great time met some real fine people as well as ate good. After the tournament I did manage to catch some better fish including a 2.90lb. rainbow on a nightcrawler. She fought hard and Curtis and I worked hard to revive her and she swam away to fight another day. All in all a great day we'll see you again next year.

Members catfish307 Posted August 24, 2010 Members Posted August 24, 2010 Hey Phil, As soon as you know the date for next years tournament, could you contact me. I'd like to schedule a trip to Taneycomo around the same time and try to fish the tournament if school hasn't already started for the young uns. Thanks, Chris.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted August 24, 2010 Author Root Admin Posted August 24, 2010 I'd say August 20 but the guys in charge haven't said for sure. I'll let you know when they decide.
