straw hat Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 This conversation reminds be of a few trips I made to some of three of the lakes around Sacramento during the early 80's. At that time - $15 to launch a boat, $5 to park and $3.85/doz for minnows. Boat traffic? WOW!!! The state required those lakes to be stripped clean of ALL cover before being filled. Fished are grown to a specific size (6" for crappie, 10" for bass) by private hatcheries and then stocked. Length limits were established the same as the stocking size. The stocking schedule is posted in advance in the newspaper. On the day of stocking the rush is on!! A few of $1 was charged for each fish kept. My brother-in-law (he lived there at the time) tried to talk me into finding a job in that area and moving there. FORGET THAT. I said if he ever fished any of the ozark lakes he would never return to Califonia! P.S. I noticed that the temps are going to be down in the low eighties for a few days at the end of the week with lows in the 50's. That is sure going to feel a lot better.
Members kcbear Posted August 24, 2010 Members Posted August 24, 2010 Gilly, I could darn near see your tongue protruding thru your cheek after the second sentence. I think you forgot to add that the roads are nasty, it rains continuously, and the mesquitoes are the size of F16,s. Give me a good old pay lake with lots of carp, anyday. KC Bear
eyeman Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 thats right! and there are no walleyes either, so fish at another lake so that way i have it to myself to relax a little .
Thunderin Gobbler Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I know you're being funny eyeman, but I would have to agree with the no walleye part. I can't seem to catch them things to save my life. I've only ever caught one, and it was about 12". Maybe that just means I should stick with bass fishing. I usually have decent luck with them.
kwall Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Well then let me be the first to say Stockton sucks in so many ways. The fishing is horrible, the water quality is worse than Lake of the Ozarks, there is an incredible amount of submerged debris that would snag most boat props, everyone takes pot shots at jet-skis, the sail boat captains will cut you no slack and will flat run you over, the people in the area suck the most being the rudest you will ever meet. In general, as previously stated, Stockton has nothing to offer anyone. Stay away. YEPPER!!! NASTY OLD MUD HOLE,I would'nt recomend it either.LOL

Thunderin Gobbler Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Haven't really been trying to target walleye that much. Mostly just crappie or bass fishing and hoping to pick a few up, but that hasn't worked for me. I am actually coming up sometime saturday anyway, so I may try to go to the weigh-in if I make it up in time. Not sure where we are planning to fish though.
