Buzz Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 The float started at lime Kiln this morning at about 8:00, three canoes, three men, and three boys. Chief and Dylan, Mike ( WoundedOne )and his son Ian, and me and Dayton, one of Dylans friends. A lot of fish were caught through out the day on several different baits. I'll post a couple of pics of the highlights. My first and best fish of the day came at about 8:30. It was about 2 lbs. and totally slammed my buzzbait. No picture of that one. A few minutes later Dayton made a cast over to the edge of a large section of moss and I hear this huge splash and turn around to see him fighting a big fish. It took him under the boat and back twice before I got a good look at it. Not a bass. Nope, it was a fat carp that absolutely inhaled his mini crankbait. I can't speak for the other guys, but everyone caught a lot of fish and some good ones too. Chief caught a very nice smallmouth that I got a picture of and a goggle-eye with some odd markings. The last picture is one of Dylan from a couple of weeks back with a double hook-up. I had a blast today. Of course I always do with these guys. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Wheatenheimer Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Nice report, Buzz! That is a heckuva purdy Brownie there Chief! Wasn't it a little warm to be wearing a sweater on the river, though?
Chief Grey Bear Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 It was quite a day. It was pretty slow gowing for the most part. I could pick up a few here and there. But it sure was a long time between the here's and there's. Then about 3:00, they started to cooperate. I had a chrome tadpolly and I mean they just slammed that thing! In fact, as soon as I released that brownie, I didn't even move and I dropped that tadpolly in by a log and another one just freaking ripped it. I ended the day somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 or 20, including one crappie and some goggle eye's. Dylan had a pretty good day too. He had on a lot of fish that he just couldn't stick. But he did get quite a few to the boat. Dayton caught around 14 and had the time of his life. Him, Dylan and Ian did a lot of swimming and so did me and Mike. I even found a rod and reel at one of our swim breaks. Members CDC Posted August 23, 2010 Members Posted August 23, 2010 Sounds like you guys had a great day. My cousin and I hit up Old Scenic Road to Tipton Ford yesterday. Put in about 3:00 and were moving pretty quick (only a little over 3 hours on the water). It was a little slow for us as well but we ended up with about 10 fish a piece and most of them pretty nice. The ones that were hitting were hitting hard...no playing around with it.

There was also two guys putting in when we took out at about 5:30. The fish were definitely hitting hard and I missed a lot of strikes at the hardware I was chucking at them. Some were short strikes and sideways hits that I just couldn't get to hook-up with. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

He wasn't fishing just paddling by but looked like he was having a good time. I missed 3 fish....all of them had a solid hook sets but wrapped me up in brush and couldn't get them out before they threw the hook. One of them in particular looked like a real nice largemouth but can't be sure of that.
Buzz Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 Yeah, if you aren't fishing in the brush you probably won't catch some of the better fish. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
