Jason Essary Posted August 28, 2010 Posted August 28, 2010 Fished the Millcreek night tourny last night. Love the beautiful temps right now. Wish the wind would stop gusting all night long for us thou. Surface temps have changed a little boys, and some of the surface action posts should tell ya so are some of the other aspects. Headed east on the take-off, playing in the clear water. Had some hits on shad patterns with couple 2lb keepers. Dark thirty hit and started fishing summer haunts. After beating up couple spots with only one more squeker, we tried a bank we love. Wind as it was, no way to fish it as usaul, but changed presentation to fit the situation, and it was on. Had 4 fish 17lb. limit. Love when you get to cull 3lbers. Had 7 over 2 1/2. Wonderful night. Times are a changing fast I believe. Get out and chase them. Jason Essary Posted August 28, 2010 Author Posted August 28, 2010 getting close, if we get a cool rain to drop temp some, it should be on. There are some on the bluff ends, but dont think they have moved up (some have im sure but not good percentage yet). johnboy2bfishin Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Went out last night fished around dam with the wife, the wind was brutal. Fishing wasn't much better. one keeper and one short. Tried everything from bluffs to long points 45 degree to transition banks. Boat traffic was ridiculous, which did't make it any easier. next week I am heading either to james river arm or around campbell/baxter area. time to learn some new water

johnboy2bfishin Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 Thanks rps. I do need to get up that way and look around. may just do that thursday or friday when i'm off. any suggestions on locations, don't need honey holes, but a bit of help to get started
T-RockJaws Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Right now, it is a hit and miss game... Fished tourneys on both Wednesday and Saturday, both nights were extremely tuff nights with it only taking about 4 pounds to get in the money. Had a buddy fish Friday night and said it was a much better bite.
rps Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Sorry about the very late reply. If you are above Big M and looking for serious fish I can suggest what works for me: 1. start looking for wooded changes - examples include a creek channel that turns to run into a bank or away from a bank and happens to have one or more standing trees or brush in or near the change. 2. find a 45 degree chunk rock bank on or near a channel then look for a place where a hump finger sticks out or a pocket hole indents 3. on long flat points or inside bend flats, look for a place where a ditch or hump runs toward the bank like a highway and fish where that highway dumps in the channel and where it peters out in the shallows. I will also give away a teaser that will entertain many. If you put your boat in the channel where Stubblefield Branch flows in, you can see five very different locations where I have taken largemouth over five pounds. In addition you can see another two locations where I have caught two or more keepers in a single day. All of them fit one or more of the descriptions above. Good luck.
