Ill Trout Bum Posted August 29, 2010 Posted August 29, 2010 I'm asking for help from all my brethren who are knowledgable of this area on the Current. After studying Google Earth images, it appears there is a road that runs very near where Ashley Creek meets the Current. If so, this would be great as the closest other access I am aware of is Baptist Camp approx. 3 1/2 mi. upstream. Has anyone out there ever accessed Ashley Creek this way? The road almost looks to be a fire trail or forest service road. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks. Scott

The portion that Y's off towards Ashley creek is gated and locked, private property. The red portion that runs to the area down stream of Ashley is also private property. Id do access the river from each location, but have permission from the owners. If you run into them, be courteous and ask. Where the yellow meets the red, there is also another trail that provides access even farther down stream. It's 100% public access (foot traffic only).
Gene K Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 Parker is pretty close isn't it? Not really. Ashley creek is about 1.35 miles from Baptist. Parker is a bit over 3 miles further downstream.
Ill Trout Bum Posted August 30, 2010 Author Posted August 30, 2010 Gene K, Thank you so much for your reply. Is the yelow road a county road? If so, how is it marked? Do you know if the property owners live nearby? I would prefer to stop and ask their permission before attempting to cross their property. I have found from past experience that most folks will let you have access to where you want to go if you just extend them the courtesy beforehand. Thanks! Scott
Gene K Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 It is not a designated county road. The owners can be found around there on occasion.
ColdWaterFshr Posted August 30, 2010 Posted August 30, 2010 I'd stick to the accesses at Tan Vat, Baptist, Parker, and Cedar Grove. The roads Gene has on his map aren't bad at first, but pretty quickly you need a serious 4WD, a car you don't mind putting some ozark-pinstriping (branch scrapes) down the side, and of course permission from folks who may or may not be home at the time, and certainly won't take kindly to finding your vehicle there when they come home.
