yaknar Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 I took the kayak out Friday morning 8/27. I called NRO the night before to see how much they would charge me to park my truck at their campground to take out. They said come on down and they charge $2. The wife put me in at Bennett Spring around 7:30 am. I tried rooster tails, mepps, crawfish, grasshoppers, and nothing until put on a white bomber. I caught a few of these, a couple those, and some others.I even caught the carp on the bomber. Nothing big but a nice time on the river. Only saw 2 canoes the whole day.
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 That's a Chub. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Buzz Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 Yeah, chubs will eat anything. Them are some good looking trout. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
oneshot Posted September 2, 2010 Posted September 2, 2010 That's a Chub. Thats what I was thinking. I've never caught a Carp here at Lead Mine I wouldn't be surprised had a Guy tell me has.I've always just been happy with Suckers. oneshot
Members Scooper Posted September 2, 2010 Members Posted September 2, 2010 Yup, we always catch a few chubs while trout fishing on the Niangua. Interesting you caught those fish on a white bomber. I don't think I've used a bomber in 25 years. Make some sense, though, as bombers kind of scoot along the bottom in a crayfish-like motion. I've read where the Rebel crawfish lure is pretty effective for trout. I see where the Niangua watershed finally got some decent rain in the past day or so.
Members Ozarkroots Posted September 3, 2010 Members Posted September 3, 2010 That's a Chub. That's what she said.
KCRIVERRAT Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Hornyheaded chub, to be exact. A purdy little hornyhead though... no horny's (warts) on it's head. Least that's what I call 'em, and while fishing by yourself they provide a little conversation while unhooking. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
Wayne SW/MO Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Sometimes you can find a bunch of decent size Chubs that will take a dry. The fun depends on whether or not you're bored. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
drew03cmc Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 Chubs love #16 scuds under a float! That is a pretty little guy. In fact, can I go so far as to say he is prettier than at least one of them rainbows. Andy
