KCRIVERRAT Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Isn't there a green cutthroat native to Colorado? Their state fish I'm thinking. Did ya catch one of those? HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
flytyer57 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 HA! Actually, that was my filet board ;-) Looks like it maybe came form the transom that finally fell off your avatar. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Forsythian Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 Isn't there a green cutthroat native to Colorado? Their state fish I'm thinking. Did ya catch one of those? Honestly, I'm not very educated on the various strains of cutthroats. I caught one other cutthroat on the trip, in Monarch Lake. The Monarch Lake cut looked alot more familiar to me, similar to the cuts I've caught on the White. This one here, I'm not sure of its ID to be honest. Cenosillicaphobiac
ness Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Two very-closely related subspecies of cutthroats around there -- the Greenback and the Colorado River cutt. Greenbacks are native to the east side of the divide and the South Platte and Arkansas River systems. Colorado River cutts are native to the west side and the ? River drainages....anybody??? That one would have been a CR cutt. John

That one would have been a CR cutt. I think that the Colorado Cuts are concentrated around the Colorado river on the west-southernish side of the state. I was in western colorado around Gunnison all summer and I caught a few of those little boogers in the higher altitude streams and ponds I fished. Sadly, most of the streams I fished had been all but taken over by non natives- not that I didn't enjoy catching them, but the cutthroats out there are awesome. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Trevor K Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Where were you staying during your trip? I was staying in Grand Lake Sept. 11-18. I only got 3 parts of the grand slam though. I only fished for about half an hour for cuts and couldn't keep away from the browns that were moving up the stream to spawn. Beautiful area though. Awesome looking fish.
Geoff Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Isn't there a green cutthroat native to Colorado? Their state fish I'm thinking. Did ya catch one of those? Yes, the Greenback Cutthroat trout. i caufght a couple of them in CO when I was there last year. they are only in a couple lakes/rivers in the Rocky Mountain National Park area. i also completed a grand slaw while there, however my brook trout was a very very poor excuse for a brook trout but it counts non the less. ha!
