awhuber Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 We had 7 of us go Saturday. Fishing was good, everyone caught fish. I caught several 12=14 inch Browns. Saw a buddy pull his lure out a a big smallies mouth. It was a great day to be out we diddled too much on the upper end to stop and say hi to Gavin and crew. They had a great spot up from Derry berry hole!

Hah If we would of stopped we would have had to spend the night. We got to cedar at 7 30 as it was! This the goomer you saw on the river? Her 8th float this year... Disclaimer: grandpa did not dress her...
ozark trout fisher Posted September 29, 2010 Posted September 29, 2010 Weird weekend on the upper Current...Camped on the river between Baptist & Parker Friday & Saturday night. 7 people out, with 6 fishing...Not many brown trout but some nice ones caught...4-5 better than 16", with the best just over 18"... Lots of small stocker bows....but the odd thing was the number of smallmouth that we caught this weekend. It was about 50/50 smallies to trout all weekend long...Mostly small, but a bud caught a 15"er. Bet we caught between 30 and 50 smallmouth last weekend, and that has NEVER happened before. Just freaking weird. Sounds like fun. That's odd about the smallies-I was down at Parker the weekend before last and didn't see or catch any-I never have on the Blue Ribbon stretch of the Current. But then I fish mostly the fast water where there wouldn't be many smallies anyway.
Gavin Posted September 30, 2010 Author Posted September 30, 2010 That was her...Looks like she had a ball...glad your getting to spend some time with her... Dont know why we caught so many smallmouth...There are always a few to be caught around Ashley or below, but weve never caught them in such an abundance..The only theory that makes sense is a migration of fish out of Ashley Creek...Ashley was really low and its getting cold at night so I'm thinking that they ate up all there food and moved, or they migrate out to the main river for the winter. Cheers.
