Members Matt_MO Posted October 4, 2010 Members Posted October 4, 2010 Has anyone fished trout there before? I see it is from November til March but I am wondering if it is stocked and ready to go on November first or not? (I'm ready to go now!) Anyway just curious about that and if you have been what kind of luck you had. Thanks!
Gavin Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 They usually stock around election day..I think they have a stocking hotline...give it a call in that time frame and good luck. There are usually a few trout to be had till the lakes ice up. Cheers.
stlfisher Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 It is almost always a few days to a week after November 1st. There is a number you can call that will announce when the lakes have been stocked. I am not sure what the number is in Kansas City. They won't tell you before the lakes are stocked, but it is reported immediately after they been stocked. I a big fan of the C/R lakes during the Winter Trout Program. It is the only time of the year I can drive 5 minutes and fish for trout. I have met many fishing friends this way and it is what hooked me on trout and ultimately fly fishing. Hit it hard during November and December before the ice sets in...the fishing tails off quickly come Feb 1st.
troutfiend1985 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 They aren't always on time at James A Reed. I don't know what goes on but I remember one year they stocked it towards the end of november. I love it, as you said driving 5 minutes to fish for trout is fun, and by that time of the year there isn't too much else to go for. I've actually ice fished for trout before, and that was an absolute blast. I caught three, all on spoons. I guess it was neat because I have never ice fished before and the tug on the end of the line is cool, you have no clue that its coming. I'm looking forward to it, I get to take my daughter to the kids pond and she gets to catch "rainbow fish" as she calls them. This year I'm buying sinking line and seeing if that helps any on the fly rod Tight lines. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
back2roots Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 I'm planning on giving J.A.R. a shot this year. It's too close-by not to try! If you liked the sound....Thank the engineer!
Dave Cook Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 It's usually stocked a day before they close the place for fishing due to a managed deer hunting season. Veterans Day is a good time to check. I live a couple of miles from there and have gone to check on stocking and have met the hatchery truck. Dave Cook Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association - Kansas City

I see that they posted that on the web, it says it will be stocked after the last managed deer hunt, so after November 19th, I was hoping it would be sooner but owell.
