That fish looks dead or close to it to me. Its great that this family is teaching their kids how to fish but they should also teach them how to respect their quarry. Last trip to Taney I saw many slot length rainbows dead, why have a slot limit and a 20 in limit for browns if we're going to kill them anyway.
tippet7 Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 How do you know it wasnt released unharmed? how do you know they didnt take it out of the water, put the scale on it, snap the photo and release it? Whole process could have taken less then 30 seconds. Maybe we can ask them for the video? Nice fish, and I am glad it was released unharmed You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

I understand the kid and parents were excited and wanted to show the weight. But when you catch a sub-legal fish, your first priority is to cause as little harm to the fish as possible and get it released as soon as possible. How about a quick pic of the kid holding the fish by the jaw. How many other kids won't be able to catch this fish now? If we don't teach the young kids to treat the fish with great respect then no one will. I'm really sick of seeing trout handled roughly when its not necessary.
motroutbum Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 i agree. any damage to the gills, no matter how severe, can cause serious injury and eventual death to a fish. now you tell me....when you catch a fish that size, and you want to take a picture you know that it takes more than 30 seconds to get the picture. and the fact that they weighed the fish would also take more than 30 seconds to get that fish calmed down enough to even have it on that scale trying wiggling aroudn trying to get off of the hook.....released unharmed could have been belly up watching it float away....but whatever not my problem to worry about resident grouch There are two types of people. This kid is an exceptional young man and I commend him on his catch and release. After reading this, he and his dad will undoubtedly know not to handle sub-legal trout in this way again... or not to share pics on a forum anymore.
