The horn blew on Monday at the local winter trout fishery at Jackson, MO. MDC Stocking rig arrived around 11 and did its dump. I met up with a friend and his young son for a little after work fun. Little one caught one on 2nd cast with the snoopy pole and a orange and gold spoon. I landed 10 rainbows, 23 blue gill, and 2 bass in the course of an hour and a half. Past years have had the lake silted with mud from construction upstream and fishing poor. This year was clear and good fishing. Pressure was light with about 10-12 fishing at any one time. Suspended bead head nymphs were the fly of the day.

The stocked some of the trout in STL today as well. Should get the rest over the next few days. Nice to travel 10 minutes to catch some trout.

What was working for you in STL?

Trout still fishing well this week. Nice weather but only have about an hour after work to fish before dark and the time change. Took the Daughter last 2 days and caught several apiece on bead head nymphs under an indicator. Lots of rises, could not see anything on the water.

Thanks. I'm not seeing very much on the water either. Been sticking with spinners of various colors, some dressed, some plain, with minimal results. With the weather being so warm, is that sending the trout to the bottom? Something is telling me that the unseasonably hot weather is causing them to be inactive.

I gave Forest Park a try on Tuesday. The Mepps spinners yielded a couple of hits, quite a bit of vegetation, and on "bonus bass" but no trout. Will try again.

It could very well be, depending on the depth of the lake. Nights have been cool but it warmed up to 75 today here. That would be too warm for them to feed well, but the wind here kept the lake stirred up and the water was still cool to the touch.

I have noticed in 4 trips to the local lake, my fly has out produced all of the spinfishers.
