ollie Posted November 18, 2010 Author Posted November 18, 2010 The island isn't as big out there now, but it looks pretty close! Trout Commander Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 JDC, it would be great if you can make it. All you need to do is head east on HWY. 60. The road name is Wallaby Rd. ( Newton County ) and it's about 9 or 10 miles east of Monett. There is a MDC sign right on the corner. Turn left on Wallaby and follow it about 2 or 3 miles until the road forks, turn left to get to Jolly Mill. That's where we met last year.If you have a Missouri Trout Fishing map it will show you,but it's no big deal to find. I seem to have 'mis-placed' my MO Trout map. My wife promises it wasn't thrown away. So the skinny on the local was greatly appreciated. Thanks. 9 at the latest we should met. There is also a nice bathroom at the park now also. I am thinking of using a point system this time. What does anyone else think? That way if you only caught one big one you would still have a chance to win bragging rights! Something like any trout caught between 8-10" would be worth 1 point and any between 11-15" 2 points and then any bigger than 15" would be 3 points. Big fish could be worth 5 points or something like that. To hard to keep track of? Just throwing it out there. Try and make it JDC. The scenery is worth it alone IMO. If I can make it I would be all for the points system, however I do reserve the right to whine/complain/say it was a terrible idea if I do not win. I should be able to make it. My son's birthday is the 29th, but I am 99% sure we will have the party on Saturday. I will post and let you all know as soon as I know for sure. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
mhall02 Posted November 18, 2010 Posted November 18, 2010 Try this map, Capps is the one on the left, Crane map is on the right: http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/5622_3532.pdf Man, I need to get back down there. Grew up around Monett fishing Capps in the mid-80s, but haven't been back in years. They would ocassionally would stock dinks, 4-5 inches long, kid you not, but the last few years I fished it they were more in the 10-12 inch range. Fond memories. Always thought Browns would thrive there with all the minnows and crawdaddys.
Buzz Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 If I can make it I would be all for the points system, however I do reserve the right to whine/complain/say it was a terrible idea if I do not win. I like the way you think JDC. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Members Brian Brown75 Posted November 19, 2010 Members Posted November 19, 2010 HOPEFULLY I can make it, im still not sure.
troutfiend1985 Posted November 20, 2010 Posted November 20, 2010 If you guys are having a points system, maybe you could have a one hour, one fly contest. I know they do that up there at Jackson Hole Wyoming. I've heard that its a blast. It could be interesting, limiting everyone to one fly of their choice for that particular hour, and then you could go back to normal fishing. Just a thought. “The greatest menace to freedom is an inert people” J. Brandeis
