That shouldn't be a concern. I don't know about that, I remember in Nov. one year at Suson a kid was scooping up stressed trout with a net. Something wasn't right and I was guessing the water was too warm, but it may have been that nasty brown water there
stlfisher Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I know at both Boathouse and Jefferson Lake they have had fish kills (trout) in past winters. It happens when they turn those large pumps or fountains on in the winter. For whatever reason the chemicals, comined with very cold temperatures will kill them. Last year it killed all the Catfish in Boathouse Lake as well. People were walking around and scopping them up. Of course the crappy water probably doesn't help either. I know a few people who have since called and asked the parks department to keep those things turned off.
Chris Barclay Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I stopped by Boathouse Lake in Carondelet Park yesterday evening and the fountain was on. I didn't catch any trout (bass and bluegill) but another guy I saw did. Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com

Bounced several small jigs under a float saw one fella have a long fight but lost in the end. I had no bites. Seems the poachers are out as usual. Using bait and keeping trout, somethings never change. Would have called but apparently left Gamethief off the this phone gonna have to dig that number back up. Never fished at Suson before. Do they stock trout in all the lakes at Suson? I cant rember how many lakes are there.

For whatever reason it seems to be a combination of the the fountains/pumps and real cold temperatures.
Chris Barclay Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I remember that! (I live a few blocks away from there) I didn't connect the fish kill to that though. Very interesting. Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
Thom Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 You are right Eric there are no fish at Busch Wildlife. Even thought I observed 2 guys at lake 28 yesterday catch 20+ while I was on the west shore just managing to catch just 5 and losing a couple. I inquired what they were using as I left .... SALOMON EGGS AND POWER BAIT...DUH. LAKE 28 CLEARLY POSTED FLYS ETC ONLY. OH, They replied well on this bottle it says these are artifical eggs so I thought they were legal. I asked them to read the whole large yellow sign and they agreed that they were mistaken and left. I counted 3 nice dead trout floating on the bottom where they were fishing. The one above was the nicest of the lot I landed and she fought well as I landed her and quickly returned to the lake. It swam off and disapeared quickly. Really fat and full must have been full of salmon eggs. Most caught on the weighted grey scud that you can see in the mouth fishing about 3 ft deep. Thom Harvengt

Lucky for them you educated them instead of calling them in. Good on your for confronting them in a way that (apparently) no one got upset. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Chris Barclay Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Great job on giving it to 'em, Thom! I was out at 28 this morning with my 2 year old son and caught uno trouto. Fun but brief. Anyone else there? Chris St. Louis, MOcbarclayflyrods.combreambum.blogspot.com
