Hello everyone. I am going to be spending Thanksgiving week on Beaver Lake. I am hoping to find some stripers. I have a cast net and am wanting to try and catch my own bait. Do any of you have any recommendations on areas to find shad. I will probably be putting out at the ramp near HWY 12 bridge or at Rocky Branch. I'm pretty new to striper fishing and have never caught my own bait before, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks. I have one of the Beaver Lake A.I.D. maps and so far I haven't found Monte Ne. I may just be looking over it or does it happen to go by another name also? Another question just in case I don't do too well catching shad. Is there anyone or anyplace that sells shad or is this illegal in Arkansas. Is there another live baitfish that you can buy that works just as well or are gizzard shad the best?

Hook Line and Sinner bait shop has shad. Not sure about shad big enough for striper. I would like to learn more about stripers myself. Im a bass guy but I want to try some striped fishing soon.

HLS sells live shad now? I have never seen them there myself, I know they do sell what they call brood minnows which can work. Main problem with shad is keeping them alive, they need circulating water and a round tank. If whatever you are keeping them in has corners they will continually butt their heads into the corner and die fairly quickly.

I really think it has a lot to do on water temp and how many shad you carry. I have kept 20 or so shad in the livewell all day with no problem and have also had 20 in a five gallon bucket with nothing to provide air and they have lived ok. Then I am only using them on 1 or 2 poles not 7 or 8 like a lot of striper fishermen so I don't need to carry a lot of shad on one trip.

I also haver never seen shad for sale anywhere around Bever Lake, minnows but not threadfin or gizzard shad, but they are easy enough to catch if you are early to rise or get them at sunset the night before.

Shows how much I know about striped fishing.

My bad guys. I remembered the small crappie minnows jurI thought they had shad az well. Guess we all have to fend for ourselves.
