Members bronzeback miner
I fished Roaring River today arriving at 9:30 and fished until 2:30. I correctly caught three and fin-hooked one. I noticed that I had to switch flies a lot, using a gold ribbed hair ear, pheasant tail nymph, and midges. I was able to hook the largest resident in the pool, looked like 3 or 4 lbs. or so; saw that flash of white in his mouth the same my line twitched, thought I set the hook and I saw him weaving and shaking then...nothing. Moral of the story, SHARPEN HOOK EVERY TIME. Buzz
My biggest problem was short strikes. I was throwing bigger bugs though, leeches. I could see them hit the fly and take off with it but a lot of them never took the whole fly into thier mouth. I missed at least as many fish as I caught and had a bunch jump off. I even tried a red zebra midge and caught a couple and jumped off several. I guess I just didn't get the hook set. The hook was sharp enough though. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
