Before being critical of any product, be it from China, Mexico, the UK, or the US, maybe you should have some experience with it. All be it a political statement you are trying to make, and I truly empathize with the background of your statement, you should consider how this all came to be. The very computer you typed those words into is made up of "crap" from China and is transmitted through thousands of "crap" circuit boards over the net that came from China. Not to mention hundreds of other "crap" products that we all use every day that have origins in the Pacific Rim.

I wish we could have all products made in the USA and get back to what this country was fifty years ago. However, we are no longer a nation of producers, but a nation of consumers. And we did that to ourselves.

Off the political soapbox now...

But again, indiscriminately calling something "crap" without any experience with it is simply uncalled for.

Anyone who wants to try out any of the Hendrix Outdoors products can let me know and I'll try to set up something. You are all invited to the Christmas party at Fowkes Backcountry Outfitters in Springfield on December 4th where I will have HO rods, reels, tools, waders, jackets, etc. that you can put your hands on and try.

All poltics were put aside when I made that post.

You called Ross "JUNK" and I do believe they make a very fine quality product. Yes they were bought by 3M, and time will tell as to their quality, which I believe will not change.

Now for the politics of the situation.

We'd all like to see this country like it was 50 years ago and the best way to do that is to stop buying all the cheap crap from China.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

If you care to look back at that post, the icon at the end of that statement was to lighten that phrase. In addition, I explained that being the HO rep, "...what did you expect me to say?" followed by a smilie. And, I do have experience with Ross, Lamson, Abel, Galvin, BassPro, SA, Okuma, and many other brands of reels. Yes, Ross does make a quality reel, as do Galvin, Abel, Tibor, Lamson, Okuma, Hendrix, and others.

My apologies to anyone who was confused by my post. Inflections (mine and FT's) are sometimes misinterpreted. I merely wish to do my job and promote the product I sell. Those that know me personally would look at that post and chuckle.

And as far as SA buying Ross, I expect it will be much better than the Shimano takeover of G Loomis. Let's hope so.

As did I.

To help the OP, I have been very happy with the Redington reels I have had. Also use Ross and Orvis. It's kinda a Ford/Chevy deal. Get into a shop and see what feels good in your hand. FWIW. Ross has a lower end Flyrise.....same high end drag as the Evolution but not as fancy a finish. They work very well for all the fishing I do.

Zack is right -- it's a Ford/Chevy-type thing. Everybody's got a favorite reel or brand it seems. Fact is, I don't really think there are any flat-out bad reels out there.

I bought an Orvis Battenkill many years ago, and I just keep buying them, or spools for them. They work, never give me any trouble, so I don't know why I'd change. Did upgrade to a Battenkill mid-arbor, mainly 'cause I liked the way it looked. We'll see how it holds up.

Don't sweat the reel decision too much.

I don't think anyone should fault anyone trying to do their job and promote their product in these difficult times. I like Ross reels too but I didn't take the slightest offense at what you said.

My favorite reel which is an Orvis original Battenkill was made in China. It's certainly not a piece of crap as it has served me well for almost 10 years. As I understand it this reel was made in Britain at one point. When production was moved to China I don't think the quality suffered. Do I wish more products were made in the good old USA? Of course. But that's just not the world we live in at present.

I'd like to take a look at your companies products sometime Terry. Maybe I can make it to Fowkes Christmas party.

I trust my potential fish of a life time to the Ross Vexsis reels.

The Ross Cimarron or Vexsis reels are extremely reliable. Many big fish caught on them, always can count on a Ross when you hook up to a serious fish.

Don't forget the CLA's from Ross.
