jdavis Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 Ducky, I went with a TFO 9' 7wt TICR and a Lamson Velocity 3. The rod picks up the line well and I can cast bigger flies further with much less effort and a lot less slapping the water behind me. It is a faster rod than I am used to but I have no problem casting it and it makes it a perfect choice for its intended uses. I also looked at the Scott A2. I liked it as well but it was a little more expensive and with the exception of being a slightly slower action, I could not tell much differance. The TFO line is a great value. The Lamson Velocity is my first large arbor reel. It has a very smooth sealed drag. Although I wasn't planning on spending as much as I did on the reel It is still a pretty good deal for the kind of quality you get and it makes a great outfit. Not that apperance is a huge factor but, It is a pretty sleek looking setup. What size rod are you looking for and for what applications?
duckydoty Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I'm looking for a 6 or 7 wt for night fishing down at Taney. Broke my 5wt a month or two ago and have been using my 4wt. I'm really under powered there. Was just interested in what you went with. I like the TFO's but do not have any serious quality reels. jdavis Posted August 27, 2006 Author Posted August 27, 2006 Definitely take a look at the Lamsons. I am very happy with mine. According to Michael at Backcountry Outfitters here in Springfield, Lamson is making some changes to their line up. I don't know what kind of changes are being made but I'm interested in seeing them. I assume that the reels currently on the shelf may go on sale as the new ones come in.
Micheal Kyle Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Yes the Lamson Reels have made changes and it is for the better. I will be ordering the new reels next week. I'm not sure when the new ones will be in. I have been told that I may discount them so from now untill the old models are gone they are 15% off. Michael To Know People Is To Know Thier Ways!
