My brother broke about the last 6 inches of the tip off of his Shimano Crucial and doesn't know what to do with it? It wasn't a manufacturers defect as I think he just accidentally busted it off. Not really sure about the warranty. Should he take it back to where he bought it? Send it back to Shimano? What does Shimano charge to fix something like that? He has had if for about 3 years if that makes any sort of difference.

I acciedently broke a shimano rod and sent it back with a letter saying it broke while trying to pull my lure from a snag. They replced it at no cost to me. All I had to do is pay for postage. It only took them 2 weeks to get me a new pole. I attatched the website explaining what to do and where to send.

Shimano has a lifetime warranty on their rods and an over-the-counter exchange policy, no questions asked. It's the best warranty in the business. We have a lot of rods and 99% of them are Shimano, partially for that reason. Take your rod to a tackle shop that is a Shimano dealer. They should exchange it on the spot. If they give you guff, try another dealer or you can send it back like cyclonebass said, but we've never had to do that. The dealer sends the broken rod to Shimano. We have made exchanges on numerous occasions. We have Crucials and Compres. They are good rods in terms of feel, etc., but they do break easily for the oddest reason - setting the hook on a short fish and so forth.

Good luck.

I have to agree with Donna. You should be able to get over the counter exchange no questions asked. It is possible that has changed but I am not aware of it. I have done this more than once. I have also sent one in and paid postage both ways and they sent me a new one that was a better grade than the one I sent in.

Could you post up here later how it turns out for our own information?

I probably wont be up to BPS until they have there spring sale and I can get some good deals or if I see an online deal too good to pass up before then and have to run up there. But for sure I will take the Crucial up there and see what they say and tell you guys and gals how it turns out. Thanks for the info Donna and the rest of you guys. Again a great community here that is always willing to help out or share a little knowledge with each other.

I'm actually going to Bass Pro tonight bc I have recently broken a Shimano Clarus. When I called Bass Pro and told them my story and since they were an authorized dealer of Shimano Rods, they told me to just bring it in and they would take care of sending it back to Shimano and would do an even "swap out" if they had the rod in stock. I'll let ya'll know how it goes

Yep Bass Pro will take it no questions asked. I once bought a Shimano Compre from Bass Pro in St. Charles. I walked out the door and literally within 5 minutes a seat in my buddies Jeep fell on it and cracked it square in half. I walked back into the store and the man at the door just started laughing at me. He took the rod and told me to pick out a new one right away. Great Warranty!!!!!!!

I have also had Shimano rods & reels fail in the last few years. I have found Shamano's customer service to be top notch at sending replacement parts, Often at no charge. If you are thinking of buying a new rod you might want to check out my post on this forum under the topic of "Best Rod Under $100".

Well, I went to Bass Pro last night an unfortunately they don't carry the "Clarus" model rod anymore so I was unable to switch it out. He said it would have been no problem if they would of had that model. I did go ahead and switch out my Abu Garcia Veritas rod. I busted the insert out of the end eye last week and the gentlemen seen the rod and within 5 minutes he handed me a new one and told me to have a good day. I was impressed bc I have had some bad experiences at BP in the years I've been there.
