Fly Tying Photography

Several years ago I came upon a website that showed how to make a homemade light diffuser box using a bleach bottle. I want to start photographing my flies and am in need of some ideas of how to make a decent light diffuser. Anybody got any suggestions on what you use?

FT57 are you referring to a soft box? There are some commercially produced but its easy to make one from a cardboard box and tissue paper.

I have a light box I made many years ago. Build a box that is about 6" deep and install 4 18" fluorescent lamps. Then about 3" over the lamps install a sheet of "opal" glass. The opal glass will diffuse the light and even out the distrubtion of light. Problem is that I don't know where you can get opal glass anymore. Might try a glass supplier.

I was looking at these lately. Would be kinda hard to set up my clamp type vise in one though.

What I've seen in the past was someone using a bleech bottle around the vise to diffuse the light. Wish I still had that URL. It seemed like a nice cheap way to photograph flies.

get one of those small dorm room fold up laundry hampers. they work excellent as a soft box diffuser. its kinda like the cowboy studio thing, just be careful with them. products can be touchy.
