flytyer57 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Several years ago I came upon a website that showed how to make a homemade light diffuser box using a bleach bottle. I want to start photographing my flies and am in need of some ideas of how to make a decent light diffuser. Anybody got any suggestions on what you use? There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
patfish Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 FT57 are you referring to a soft box? There are some commercially produced but its easy to make one from a cardboard box and tissue paper.
Rolan Duffield Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I have a light box I made many years ago. Build a box that is about 6" deep and install 4 18" fluorescent lamps. Then about 3" over the lamps install a sheet of "opal" glass. The opal glass will diffuse the light and even out the distrubtion of light. Problem is that I don't know where you can get opal glass anymore. Might try a glass supplier.
flytyer57 Posted December 20, 2010 Author Posted December 20, 2010 I was looking at these lately. Would be kinda hard to set up my clamp type vise in one though. What I've seen in the past was someone using a bleech bottle around the vise to diffuse the light. Wish I still had that URL. It seemed like a nice cheap way to photograph flies. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
Geoff Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 get one of those small dorm room fold up laundry hampers. they work excellent as a soft box diffuser. its kinda like the cowboy studio thing, just be careful with them. products can be touchy.
