Members Jeff Hearn Posted December 20, 2010 Members Posted December 20, 2010 Headed to Caulfield on Tuesday AM.....Stones, Princes, PT, HE, and eggs ready........Hope to be on the water by 9am.....Got some bombs tied and gonna fish short lines to start.....Should I go up or down from the bridges or fish at the Mill.....just wading as I'm going solo......Thanks for any pointers......Will post report either way...fish or not.....Euro fish strategy if they will bite at all.....don't expect much in numbers like BS or Beaver Jeff
Justin Spencer Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Been catching lots of rainbows on egg with egg dropper, a few big fish but tons of parr marked. Did see the stocking truck last Wed. so there should be a few browns left from Blair down to Dawt if the otters haven't eaten them all yet. Let me know what they are biting if you get in to them. I'd fish below Patrick and just below the spring outlet, walk down past Althea Spring at Patrick. I'd fish downstream of the public access at Blair, good riffle a short distance down. Should be plenty of fish either of these places. If you are willing to part with a whopping $5 bill you can come fish the water in front of my campground. I do 90% of my fishing here and can give you a few pointers on where I've been catching them lately. Good luck and let me know how you do. Brian Wise Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I would go up-river from the Mill for sure. If I fish the river 200 days per year...I fish Dawt Mill, well, 0 days of those 200. Unless the river is up and the stripers are running to the dam, but that is as close as I get to fishing Dawt Mill. The islands above Patrick have been fishing well and they have great Euro nymphing style water. Blair has also been fishing well. You can't go wrong with the selection of flies you listed too. Members Jeff Hearn Posted December 22, 2010 Author Members Posted December 22, 2010 Fished today until 400.......Seven different species including 3 Browns and 11 Bows.....Caught them on a Rubberleg Stone, Czech, Prince, and the most on a Hares Ear w/ copper wire and no bead.....Also got to fish the new Streamflex 11' 3 wt......I was suprised how good it fished......Short lining with it seemed plenty stiff and not as whippy as you might think.....I personally like the extra foot and a cork fighting butt......Have you fished one yet Aaron, I would be interested in your take....Could feel the nymphs ticking the bottom really well....More on that later......I think it was a good first trip....Talked to Justin a few minutes.....Had a blast but a 93 mile one-way.....Fished 4 different spots and walked probably 3 miles.....One wet arm and them rocks up there are slick......Look forward to going up there again soon with the Clacka in tow..... Thanks Brian and Justin for the pointers on the flies....Nice also to meet Fin and Chockie Jeff
Gavin Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Thats a very good day by NFoW standards. You must have A game! Thanks for the report.
Guest Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Sounds like a great day, what were the other 5 species?
Chris Gates Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Sounds like a great day! That river is awesome!

Justin Spencer Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 He definately knows what he is doing. Great job for first trip to NFoW. 3-4 fish per spot is pretty much what I hope for when I fish here, hope you found a few with some size, the parr marked bows have been most of my catch lately. Although I caught one rainbow the other day that was 10-12 inches and still had parr marks, pretty cool fish. Good meeting you Jeff and look forward to fishing with you.
