bferg Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I have a 1/2 day Wednesday and want to get the fly line pulled. Have to stay fairly close to Bentonville and I am tired of Roaring- just want to see something new. Everyone has great things to say about Capps- sounds like a cool place. Can anyone give a rookie some more detailed advice? I know there is an "upper" and "lower" section...but that is about it. Any word on best place to park? Fly selection? Any help would be greatly appreciated and repaid with a most excellent fishing report Wed evening!
Members pocomoacres Posted December 20, 2010 Members Posted December 20, 2010 I went to Capps "blind" a few weeks ago. Got skunked but did see the potential. Seemed to be plenty of parking at the lower bridge and up near the park. I am sure someone else can help you more, but when I go back, I will go to the lower bridge and work my way upstream. Kind of tough walking but some good looking water. Have fun, and please report back.
Buzz Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 I'm not sure what time of day you plan on fishing Capp's so I'll just tell you how I do it. I usually get there early and fish around the mill. Up above the old steel bridge and down past the new bridge. Depending on how recent the stocking is you can waste a good amount of time just fishing these areas. Usually before noon I'll head down to lower section. You'll find it to be much wilder. I usually head upstream from there and just start working the water until I find the fish. There are a lot of nice fast water runs and a few slower holes that usually hold fish. I hope this helps you out. Please post a report about your trip. Here's a map of the creek if you don't have one. Capps Creek map.pdf If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
ollie Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 Interesting map Buzz, didn't know the names of the upper springs. I will go right before New Years. I'll give you a shout when I go. That sounds good. I may not have time to get back over there until New Years eve or day. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
ollie Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 bferg, you just need to park at one of the lots and go from there. Fish can be caught all throughout the creek. Where they were a couple of weeks ago doesn't mean they are there now. Last time we were there the water was a little high so I would think the stockers have been moved around some. I will skip a hole sometimes because it hasn't produced in the past, but it never fails I can hit it again some other time and catch fish! bferg Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 I hear you Ollie- I am excited to get out an explore a bit. Think I will start at the lower bridge and work up. Another question: anyone ever seen any Quail there? MDC says they have a small population. I have a German Shorthair that has not gotten to hunt since I moved here from CO in 2008. Would love to get him on point!
ollie Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Chub, I know they manage it for quail, but I have yet to see them out there anywhere. Now a friend of mine has seen pheasant out that way. I am sure that was from the 4-B's hunting area somehow though. They probably are out there, I just haven't "stumbled" on to them as of yet and I go a lot. chub minnow Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Yep pretty sure a buddy and I saw a few Quail down at the field adjacent to the last parking lot. There's a wooded area near the the confluence w/Shoal. They were in the field near that treeline. Filed was recently cut. Now I'm not an expert ornithologist or anything, but we both thought they were quail.
