gotmuddy Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I am contemplating floating CC tomorrow on the kayak(with waders!) and I am wondering if it would be a waste of time. The water should have some color with this rain we had, and I havent been bass fishing in too long. I was thinking of taking 3 rods. Jig on one rod, either a tube or a grub on another, and a suspending jerkbait on the 3rd. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
tjulianc Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Try to be as quiet as you can on the water. The bass are very finicky, even with the rain. Slow dragging a tube works about as well as anything right now.
Justin Spencer Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Time to start trout fishing. Bass fish in summer/trout fish in winter, trout have been biting well, not sure about spin fishing for them in winter, maybe someone has tips. I would say ultra light with indicator and small maribou jig. I would say ultra light with indicator and small maribou jig. I have been doing a little trout fishing. I need to go out on NFoW with you one day. fishing hasn't been as good as I would like lately below norfork dam. I did catch a 18" brown this morning. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
zipstick Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Go for it if the water is above 40, they will bite out of the current. I guided the last two days where the water temps were 41 and 39. Both days were good for bass, but I did catch more in the 41 degree water. Totaled 37 bass with a few picture taker brownies. I'd start and stay with a tiny hair jig. Deep and slow! If the water temps are below 38, don't expect to catch anything.
Justin Spencer Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 . I need to go out on NFoW with you one day I'd love too. If you're not getting them below the dam I think you might be disappointed here. While the fish still bite this time of year, I don't think we can expect the action we get once the water starts warming up. Winter fishing = more beer/less fish.
