Brian Sloss Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 I got together with some friends on Sunday and we got three drift boats out on the river. The fishing was pretty good considering the number of anglers. there were a lot of of spawning redds in the first two miles and a number of "spent" redds on the lower section. We caught fish on a lot of different things, but I can say for sure we caught fish on eggs, stoneflies (Pats), Jigs, prince nymphs and woolies. Justin of Sunburst fame got to get his boat out on this river with our friend Chrys and my business partner Ryan. Chris Gates, Ryan and Jeff were in another boat, though they paddled up to the spring and we did not see them the rest of the day. They reported good fishing though. My boat was me, Jeff and Steve (friends from college) and John who does some guiding for us. Jeff tagged a twenty incher that threw the hook after a coouple minutes in fast water. John hooked a nice one early in the day that broke off. Everyone caught plenty of fish. A lot of the holes would produce one to 3 fish and then cool off until it was rested for a while. This may have been because of how low and clear the water is. The water is as low as I have seen it. One cool side note, Justin found a shoal where he caught about 10 parr marked babies in a row. Just down at the next shoal John caught one as well. good news for next year. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Justin Spencer Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Had a great time yesterday, fun for me to see some different water. The Eleven Point is a great river and fishery and I'm always amazed at how the Ozark rivers all have their own character and can be so different. I was pleasantly surprised how well we did following Brian's boat, and from what I heard the 3rd boat which was Gates may have caught as many as either of the first 2 boats. Tons of eagles, had a deer swim within 20 feet of the driftboat, and stayed warm with a little help from the Hot darn, what a wonderful day. MaxDrown Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Are all of these boats and their guides for hire on the 11? We often have more than 2 people that would like to go on a guided fishing trip, but we prefer drift boats. -- Max Drown
Brian Sloss Posted January 4, 2011 Author Posted January 4, 2011 Not much in the way of smallies. I can get a second drift boat if given enough advance notice. www.elevenpointflyfishing.com www.elevenpointcottages.com (417)270-2497
Chris Gates Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 It was a great trip and great seeing you guys! It's plug and play it seems every time I get my info from Sloss. He knows the river and were usually prepared because of it. Can't wait to hit the 11 point again soon!
