abkeenan Posted January 8, 2011 Posted January 8, 2011 Sorry to bring it up again but atleast Ive narrowed it down to 3 choices. Have looked online at all 3 and my head is about to explode.
abkeenan Posted January 9, 2011 Author Posted January 9, 2011 Looks like the majority of guys here like the falcons and looking at all the info at bassboatcentral that looks to be the heavy favorite unless when i go to buy BPS has a great sale on the Compre. My next question though is, are the falcon lowriders worth the extra 40-50 bucks over the Original Series models? Also what do you guys think about micro guides?
rps Posted January 9, 2011 Posted January 9, 2011 My 2 cents: I own and use a ten year old original. My jig/carolina rod is a low rider. I owned but broke a Cara and replaced it with a Cara. Go as far up the chain as you can stand. Additional 2 cents: Last winter I built a microguide rod on a St. Croix blank. I used it about a month before I stupidly slammed the rod box lid on the tip. I am building a new microguide rod this winter. I was extremely impressed at the performance of the microguide rod. Unfortunately, the less expensive microguide rods merely substitute small guides for large and do not rearrange the spacing. As the line rides much closer to the blank, more guides are needed to avoid line to blank contact on the throw and when a fish is on. More wraps equals more expense. A well built microguide casting rod will have more guides than even a concept lay out. Therefore a good microguide rod is going to be well above the original $100 target. I hope you find one that pleases you.

You owe yourself to go check out the new Carbon-lites with the micro guides. I've got the urge to buy another pole, as if I need it. But, my better half said she wanted to go to da rock with me. So I think I'll buy "her" a new spinning pole Carbon-lite. Already have two now, and am really impressed. I have several other high end poles including a custom built blade chucker. And can attest to the fact these carbon-lites are the real thing.
abkeenan Posted January 11, 2011 Author Posted January 11, 2011 Thanks for the input guys. Do Falcon or Shimano Rods ever go on sale at BPS? I know Shimano's reels never do.
steveearle Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 I think the Veritas is the best rod with the worst warranty (1 year).....
Members zzjonze Posted January 12, 2011 Members Posted January 12, 2011 I'm a huge fan of the Veritas too.I like it better than my Kistler. After looking at the Falcon Original Series I don't see a hook hanger. One of the reasons I got a Veritas over the Falcon Boocoo rod was I do not like those kinds of hook hangers it has. I been wondering if anyone has been fishing the Micro guide rods in this cold weather? Do they freeze up as bad as regular guides? ZZ
Members Pounce Posted January 23, 2011 Members Posted January 23, 2011 Another vote for the Carbon-lite. I like them almost as much as my Loomis GLX.

Go shake a few rods and compare them side by side. might even take your reel in with you and hang a 1/2oz weight off the end of them, see what's what. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Jason Essary Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Had a guy at BP show me how to really tell the sensitivity of a rod once. Take the rod in hand, with reel if possible, and hold it as you would fishing. Have a friend (my girlfriend hates when I make her do this) put the tip to their throat and talk lightly. You will be amazed at the differences with the rods. My two cents, im with rps. Falcon all the way and spend all you can. Love the low riders.
