Members Watcher Posted July 10, 2006 Members Posted July 10, 2006 We took a short 4hr float from Buckner Bottom to the end of High Logway Eddie today. The water is starting to get low. Clarity is fair with the water being slightly green. We caught 7 smallmouth 3 of which were 16". Goggle eye were slow and under deep rocks, that is where the bass was also. The top bait for both was the 4' Cream Natural worm, and the Trout Slayer Jigs. We had 14 Goggle eye at 8" and 19 at 5" to 7.5". We used 2lb test line. on 5' med action rod and Mitchel AV-S500UL reel. We used the motor oil 4" Bush Hog but had no luck on it. Using the light line seem to give us more strikes but lost some baits due to hang-ups. According to some campers at Buckner Bottom the area has had a lot of pressure all week, but not many fish had been caught. The cold front at the first of the week shut them down. Here is the baits we used
BrianK Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I'm not familiar with those accesses.I've usually been between 6Crossings and Ross or up around Slabtown. Sounds like some nice smallies though for just a 4 hr float. Guessing they are below Ft Leonard Wood??? thanks bk

Known and used primarily by locals, and are not marked by signage and not normally found on maps. May be mentioned or detailed in the MDC floating maps book, but I would have to dig it out and look plus my copy is an OLLLLD edition.

Here is the baits we used Headed down to stay with the family last weekend (15-16) in Licking and put in at "the bottom" and motored to the shoal at the end of the eddie and motored back up and caught 30 legal goggle eye and 3 smallies over 12. Caught too many 8s and 10s to possibly count and not alot of small goggle eye but a few. Also hooked up with 2 largemouth about 10 inches and caught 1 small flathead about 1 pound. Pretty good trip. Also stopped at Boiling Springs and fished below the swimming hole Sunday and caught 2 little smallmouth and a handful of really small goggle eye. Good weekend fishing. Good Luck "Your chances of ever catching a record fish increase in direct proportion to your distance from a reliable scale"
