ozark trout fisher Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 I don't care what vegans do just as long as it doesn't prevent me from eating a big old steak or making rabbit stew.... More meat for the rest of us As a matter of fact I am glad that there are the holier than thou vegan/PETA types. I get great pleasure from annoying/ offending them.

jdmidwest Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Xenophobia is bad for the digestion. Why mock people trying to eat lower on the food chain? We're better off with them than without them. jdmidwest Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 You ever watch that tv show called "V"? Is it it one of the higher up channels that you have to pay per view???? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Thom Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 What I don't like about the vegans we hear about (and one I have known) is that they act like they are holier than thou for being vegan, yet always look like they are working so hard to keep their strict vegan diet. I have no problem with people doing it for health reasons, but that is more of a veganish diet than totally vegan. Give me a break you can't eat honey! Back in 2002 I traveled to Botswana in Africa for 3 weeks with a group to build a Church in the bush. The diet there was very interesting: insects, meat, plants ... you name it. We had one of our 20+ crew that was a Vegan and he got so sick even though he onlyl ate his restricted diet that we had to travel 30 kilometers back to the nearest village to get him medical help. The nice part of it all was that we heard very little about the healthy diet he was on for the rest of the trip. Thom Harvengt
Tim Smith Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Plants convert CO2, so Vegans are contributing to Global Warming. Great science as always JD. You'll have that time maching running in no time.
Trout Commander Posted February 2, 2011 Posted February 2, 2011 Seems like a lot of work being a vegan for what reason? Because it's the trendy hip thing to do! Before I get flamed, obviously there are people who do it for animal right concerns and health reasons, but I would estimate that 75% of the vegans that I know (which isn't that many) do it because (they think) it's the in thing. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
jdmidwest Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 One plus side to vegans, they require less beef, so farmers raise less cattle, so we have less cow farts. Maybe it helps offset the carbon credits they consume...... "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Tim Smith Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 One plus side to vegans, they require less beef, so farmers raise less cattle, so we have less cow farts. Maybe it helps offset the carbon credits they consume...... That's better. 10 pound of beef = 10 pounds of corn and that doesn't even count the footprint of transport and beef processing. Vegetarians have a much smaller footprint.
Justin Spencer Posted February 3, 2011 Author Posted February 3, 2011 10 pounds of my beef which is only grassfed has a much lower footprint than the fertilizer/water/diesel for planting and harvesting the corn that is probably found as the staple of most vegans diet. Unfortunately even vegans probably rely on corn (corn syrup) in many of their dishes. I would guess lots of the vegans fake meats are made up of corn and or soy which relies heavily on inputs of carbon to finally make it to the shelf. Vegetarians may have a smaller footprint in general, but those that grow their own meat and raise much of their own vegetables have the least food footprint of all and eat much tastier meals!
