Members raildog Posted February 4, 2011 Members Posted February 4, 2011 I live close to a lake that is heavly stocked with walleye. The walleye spawn on the rip-rap face of the dam. I have caught a couple of these spawners using shallow diving crank baits but they are not all that effective and they are just too costly to lose in the rocks. I was wondering if anyone has used lighted slip bobbers fished real shallow with big minnows with any success? I'm limited to fishing from the bank. The walleye are there in numbers when they are spawning. Any help or advice would be greatful. Kenny
exiledguide Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 I had a lot of luck fishing shallow walleye with just a minnow on a hook in in Northwest Ontario and on Lake Catherine below Carpenter Dam and in the Ouchita River above and below the lakes and the upper Saline river in central Arkansas. If you use circle hooks the bass you catch can be released without harm.
Leonard Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Have you tried jigs... A couple years back when they opened the flood gates at Table Rock.. guys were throwing Smithwicks/rapalas and XPs/ rebels ..... caught a lot of the.. I couldnt buy a bite on them... I started using my PMS (olive, black or Brown) tied on a 1/8 jig head.. and started catch a lot minus fishing in a trout lake .... I caught over 30 walleyes on jigs in the 21-32in range...
