Gatorjet Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Thanks for all of the answers! I'll be there for three days so i'll probably try a few techniques. I'm hoping to relax on the dock with some baitfishing, and try to catch a few fish for the pan. I'm sure one of the days i'll take out a john boat and go after some bigger fish. I'm pretty good with a jerkbait, and from what I read, fishing a jig for trout isn't much different from bass fishing. Is there usually someone at the marina who can answer questions about current fishing conditions or help me with some places to try out when i rent a boat? You can get plenty of information from the staff, and even other guests at Lilley's. Dock fishing is almost always good when there is no generation. Power Bait (Gulp). One white, and one other color. Usually pink, or chartreuse. Also a night crawler hooked in the middle like a wacky rig, inflated with air, and fished with a weight 18' or so from the hook. I use a #6 circle hook for less swallowed bait. Fishing from a boat you can do the same in other parts of the lake. Short Creek is usually very productive with the crawlers. With a little current, or wind drift, you can bounce a 3/32 or 1/8 oz jig along the bottom for some really great catches. I like sculpin, sculpin/olive,dark brown/olive, olive/peach and brown.orange. Don't forget to give white a try either. Phil hass a good supply of very good PJ's jigs in the shop. A very small 1/80, 1/125, or micro jig under a float can also produce quite well. Especially with a little wind riffle on the water. Good Luck, but be careful, Taney trout fishing can be addictive! Real men go propless!
Members Fredrick Posted March 3, 2011 Members Posted March 3, 2011 I don't have a boat or rent one I fish from shore and I catch numbers and size of fish. The green rooster tails 1/8 ounce seem to work well even better if they are generating. I use a small rebel chrome and black jerk bait . This produces less fish but usually larger fish . Its over all good I can decide if i want to go to the dam with my ultra light and work for the fish or I can sit at a dock with powerbait eggs (sunrise) and let the fish come to me. jagermeister anyone?
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 3, 2011 Root Admin Posted March 3, 2011 That's a good word, Fredrick!
