I had waded a portion and with flows of 120cfs there is no water going the whole length of cc. I would expect 300 cfs or better would be required. I want to do that float this spring possibly. Right where you launch there is a nice long hole.

I was always curious about lower Crooked Creek, ever since somebody, maybe Keith Sutton, wrote in an Arkansas Game and Fish magazine back in the 1970s that you could catch huge smallmouth out of it but it was either dry or so brushy and snaky in places that most people wouldn't want to get on it. Always wondered if he was telling a tall tale, especially when the first time I ever saw it at 101 it was bone dry beneath the bridge.

It runs underground they say. There is so little water below 101 bridge its a heck of a drag!!!. If the water is up and running the brush will beat you to death. If the weather is warm its a snakeheaven!!!

Someday the rest of CC will be the same way with the lack of gravel mining.

This summer I wanted to try it out so I walked up from the 101 bridge. I walked a mile and a half. It was not worth the walk. I caught some fish but nothing great. However I have seen pictures of 6-7lb largemouth's from that area.

I went over there one summer with my little brother and wanted to try below Yellville. I didn't have a clue on accesses or distances. I basically looked at a map and found the first place below Yellville to take out. It may have been 101. Not sure.

Anyway, we put in at the city park in Yellville early in the morning and started heading down. I basically spent the entire float dragging a canoe through willow thickets and over gravel and thinking "surely we'll find a deep hole here soon." We didn't. It was absolutely brutal. We booked it as quickly as we could down to the takeout. Fortunately we were both young and in good shape, because after hours of dragging and carrying, we loaded up the canoe and hauled it to Kelly's slab with just enough time to float down to our original put-in vehicle at Yellville. Maybe with more water it's different, but we didn't even find stranded fish in the pools that still had water. It is not a trip I recommend.

What about taking a boat(canoe or jon) up the creek from the White river. About how far can you go before it starts to run dry?

Depends on how far you want to drag that thing. Gotmuddy and I did it last summer and could only go about a half mile before the rocks and shoals got too big to manuever around.

You can take a canoe quite a ways up, but IMO the fishing wouldn't worth the trouble.

FWIW, those isolated holes do have fish in them, I caught 10 fish in one that was about 30yds long and 10yds wide.

I'm planning a trip for later in the year to go from Hwy 101 down to the White. I know that a large part CC sinks underground past Yellville, so what kind of flows at Kelly's should I look for to do this trip? I guestimated that it is about 10 miles from 101 to the White, based off Google maps, is that about right? There looks to be some good spots to set up camp for an overnight trip, is that a good assumption? Anybody who has floated this section with any info or advise I am all ears.
